Ex-WBO/WBC light welter champ Timothy Bradley successfully moved up to welter last night at Augua Caliente Casino in Rancho Mirage, CA, handing Argentine slugger Luis Carlos Abregu his first career defeat.
Bradley, 26-0 (11), pressured the visitor relentlessly, putting the pressure on from the start and simply outworked his South American foe.
Although Bradley was stepping up a division, it was the first time that Abregu, 29-1 (23), was in the ring with a truly word class opponent and the difference in experience was evident over the course of Bradley’s 118-110, 117-111 and 116-112 victory.
Light middle contender Alfredo Angulo, 19-1 (16), sorted former WBA titlist Joachime Alcine, 32-2 (19), in short order, halting the Canadian at 2:59 of the first frame.
Former super feather world title challenger Daniel Attah, 24-6-1 (8), lost his third in a row as he was stopped in the second by lightweight contender Antonio DeMarco, 24-2-1 (18), in an all southpaw battle.
DeMarco was making his first ring appearance since his WBC title loss to Edwin Valero in February.
