Former Olympian in the 2000 Games and current light welterweight contender Ricardo Williams was sentenced to three years in jail today. Williams, part of the crop of fighters signed by promoter Lou DiBella after the 2000 Olympics, was brought up on charges of cocaine trafficking and faced the possibility of up to a decade behind bars. Upon serving the three year sentence, Williams intends to resume his boxing career. As a professional, Williams seemed unmotivated whereas many of his fellow DiBella stablemates took the initiative and began successful careers. Williams fell at the first hurdle in a loss to exciting Mexican contender Juan Valenzuela and added another loss to his record before news of his legal troubles arrived.
