Bury ring ace Scott Quigg will face Nelson Monte when he challenges for the vacant WBA international super-bantamweight title.
Quigg, 21, will face the Argentinian (14-6-3) at Bury’s Castle Leisure Centre on Saturday September 25, with the show being filmed by Hatton TV.
Quigg will be roared on by more than 1000 fans when he tackles his South American rival – the first non-European he has ever faced.
He said: “I cannot wait to fight at home again. When I won in Bury in May the feeling was something I cannot describe. A lot of fighters talk about fighting in their own back yard, but the Castle Leisure Centre is just that. I can walk there in seconds.”
Monte, 33, has scored half his wins inside the distance and when he last boxed in February, outpointed Miguel Angel Villegas. Quigg who is unbeaten in all 19 professional fights is also closing in on a British title fight after winning an eliminator over Gavin Reid in July.
Hatton Promotions CEO Gareth Williams said: “This is another learning fight for Scott and he will improve with these types of contests. It isn’t just about getting him to world class level and seeing what happens. It is about making sure he is prepared to win and reign against the best for a long time.”
Ricky Hatton added: “The British title shot is coming and ranked at number three by the EBU, but this keeps him busy and experience at a high level.”
Fighters on the undercard include Tom Doran, Jez Wilson, Kieran Maher, Graeme Higginson and Jack Perry.
