Santa Cruz Added To Ogden Charity Boxing Event

ByBoxing Press 10/20/2010

Sensational super bantamweight prospect Leo “Teremoto” Santa Cruz has been added to the star studded “An Evening Ringside” Jonathan Ogden Foundation Benefit card this Thursday night, October 21st at the Martins Valley Mansion in Cockeysville, Maryland.

Fighting out of Lincoln Heights, California, Santa Cruz has continued to impress West Coast boxing fans since turning professional four years ago.

Known for his outstanding boxing skills and fast hands, the former amateur standout brings a record of 13-0-1 with five knockouts into the scheduled six rounder against Milwaukee’s James Owens, 4-1-0 (2KO’s).

Santa Cruz is currently riding a three bout knockout streak, most recently stopping Jose Angel Cota on June 3rd at the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles.

The 22 year old Santa Cruz is one of several young world class prospects and local fan favorites who will be featured at “An Evening Ringside.”

Also set for the action packed card will be a welterweight clash between crowd pleasing undefeated welterweight prospect Emmanuel “The Tranzformer” Taylor of Edgewood Arsenal, Maryland and Puerto Rico’s Laureano Laracuente.

Just 19 years old, Taylor has been the talk of the talent rich Maryland boxing scene since turning professional in March of 2009. Sporting a record of 9-0-0 with eight knockouts, Taylor has been counted on to thrill fans along the East Coast with his trademark brutal knockouts.

Sporting a record of 7-3-1 (2KO’s), crafty veteran Laracuente will be Taylor ’s toughest foe to date, as the match up has all the trappings of an all-action six rounder.

Former amateur standout Alantez Fox will make his highly anticipated first professional appearance in the Baltimore area. Fighting out of nearby Forestville, the 18 year old Fox looked terrific in his pro debut, dominating Kevin Kibler over four rounds on July 31st at the Sovereign Bank Baseball Stadium in York, PA.

Fox, 1-0-0, will see action against Tallahassee, Florida based, Dustin Parrish, 0-1-0, in a four round junior middleweight tilt.

In a special attraction four rounder, female newcomers Carla Torres of Cleveland, Ohio and Jennifer Wood of Lynchburg, Virginia, will square off in a four round lightweight bout.

Wood made a very successful pro debut with a first round knockout of Shanna Allen on May 8th in Bedford, Virginia. Torres will be making her pro debut.

Light heavyweights also will see action as Baltimore ’s Maxell “The General” Taylor will face Brooklyn, New York’s Ariel Espinal in a scheduled four round bout.

After a four year layoff, the 26 year old Taylor, 14-2-1 (5KO’s), got back in business with a six round decision over Francois Ambang on September 17th at the Du Burns Arena in Baltimore, Maryland.

A native of the Dominican Republic, Espinal, 8-16-3 (4KO’s), battled longtime local favorite Mike Paschall in a six round war on September 10th, losing a hard fought majority draw.

Rounding out the six bout card is a four round super middleweight bout between undefeated Randallstown, Maryland native Dale “Hit Hard as Hell” Roberson-EL, 4-0-0 (2KO’s) and Frank Armstrong of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, 4-15-3 (3KO’s).

Martins Valley Mansion is located at 594 Cranbrook Road in Cockeysville, Maryland. Tickets and further information can be obtained by calling 410-336-8889 or at The Jonathan Ogden Foundation website

Callum Smith has pulled out of the David Morrell fight which was due to take place in his hometown Liverpool on 18rh April. I was looking forward to this fight. Ben Whittaker will be headlining the event now. talksp […]
  • Errol Spence v Tim Tszyu - June 2026 4/7/2026
The clash between Spence and Tszyu had reportedly been lined up to take place in June. Tim did suffer a cut in his bout against Nurja, which could potentially delay proceedings. I am concerned that Spence has not fought for years now and having no warm up. This may show that he has not much left and cashing in. Tszyu secured a one-sided unanimous decision wi […]

Negotiations for a WBO and WBA welterweight unification clash between Devin Haney and Rolly Romero have reportedly collapsed. Organisers had planned for the fight to headline a PBC event on May 30, live on Amazon Prime PPV. Haney has turned down the fight. The reason for Haney pulling the plug is that he wasn’t offered a guaranteed purse. PBC instead propose […]
  • Rene Santiago to defend his WBA and WBO junior flyweight belts in Japan 4/2/2026
Rene’s not talked about much. Even here in Puerto Rico he’s not as well known as Xander Zayas or even Oscar Collazo. But he’s got 2 of the 4 belts in the division, and tonight he defends them against Masataka Taniguchi in Japan. Gotta hand it to him. This is his 3rd straight fight in Japan. I admire any fighter who’s willing to go halfway around the world to […]
