Tszyu Struggles to Make Weight.

IBF light welterweight champion Kostya Tszyu was hit by the less than ideal circumstance of having to shed weight today ahead of his clash with Ricky Hatton in the early hours of Sunday morning in England. Tszyu, a Russian born and naturalized Australian was a full three ounces above the contracted weight limit and was forced to shed the weight before the deadline of the weigh-in. Yesterday, Englishman Michael Brodie had to disrobe to make the 126-pound featherweight limit to secure his challenge to WBO champion Scott Harrison. It is not uncommon for a fighter to have to shed weight on the day of the fight, and not the first time for Tszyu, and although the amount was not much, the psychological edge goes to Hatton here before a punch has been thrown. Both fighters are huge light welterweights and will likely enter the ring around sixteen pounds heavier than the contracted 140-pound limit.
