Arena Boxing: “Bang Bang” Olukun Stops Airich In Germany

Last-minute replacement Gbenga “Bang Bang“ Oloukun stopped German heavyweight contender Konstantin Airich in three rounds in front of 1000 fans at the Vogelsanghalle in Stralsund, Germany on Friday night.

The Nigerian who stepped in on only two days notice for unbeaten Turk Yakup Saglam connected with the harder punches from the opening bell on. In the third „Bang Bang“ landed a powerful uppercut which sent Airich to the canvas immediately after 47 seconds in the third. The German beat the count but was on shaky legs forcing his corner to throw in the towel.

“I am so disappointed“, stated Airich after the fight. “I just didn’t see that shot coming. I know that I can beat Bang Bang. I hope he gives me a re-match so I can prove that.“

“I wouldn’t have accepted the fight on short notice if I didn’t believe in my chance“, said the Oloukun. “I know Konstantin, I knew his weaknesses and I knew about my own strengths. So I just hammered him down. Bang Bang!“

In the co-feature former German amateur standout Erkan Teper stopped vetern Alexander Kahl in only 36 seconds. Teper connected with the first hard combination and sent Kahl to the canvas with a cracking right hook to the head. Kahl couldn’t beat the count. It was only Teper’s second pro-fight and his second knockout victory.“

“Erkan proved again that he is capable of achieving big things“, says promoter Ahmet Öner. „His long and successful amateur career obviously helps him a lot in the pro ranks. We will continue to match him against tough opponents to bring him to the top fast.“

Next Teper will travel to Miami to spar with Odlanier Solis for the December 17th final eliminator against Ray Austin. „We will present this young exciting prospect in the USA as well as part of the Solis vs. Austin undercard“, adds Öner.

Dominican Rafael Bejaran had a lot of work in his Germany debut taking home a close decision win over hard-hitting German Michael Schubov after six rounds. Scores were 59-58, 59-58 and 58-58 in favor of Bejaran.

Azad Azizov won the only title fight of the night and secured the interim version of the PABA lightweight championship by beating Khakhaber Avetisian from Georgia. Avetisian retired in the corner after the sixth.

Turkish middleweight prospect Murat Öner clearly outscored Andy Thiele from Magdeburg. Mike Keta stopped Mihalj Halas from Serbia in one round. As did Domenic von Chrzanwoski in his fight against Tomas Freitag from Poland. Özlem Sahin from Ludwigsburg won the only female bout of the night by outscoring Fleis Dejndji from Serbia.
