The world’s top Women’s welterweight was in action last night as Cecilia Braekhus defended her two world title belts at the Kongrescenter in Herning.
It was the sixth straight bout in which Braekhus was fighting for either the WBC, WBA or WBO titles and the 29 year old Norwegian resident produced her second consecutive stoppage.
Facing Braekhus last night was 26 year old Serbian native Eva Halasi, who had never defeated an opponent with a winning record and despite having contended for the WFC crown in a losing effort against Jessica Balogun a year ago, was clearly out of her depth against the far more experienced champion.
Halasi came to fight however and the hard punching challenger tried to make a scrap of it but Braekhus used her skill advantage to good effect, staying out of range until she had studied Halasi and began to pick the Balkan visitor apart.
By the third frame, it was all Braekhus, who dropped Halasi hard with a sharp counter right. Halasi beat the count but was judged to be in no position to continue and the contest was stopped at 0:27 of the round.
Braekhus retains her WBC and WBO titles, improving to 16-0 (4), while Halasi falls to 6-3 (6), snapping a two bout win streak.
The undercard featured ex-European super middle champ Rudy Markussen, 35-2 (22), crushing former WBC Mediterranean beltholder Dejan Ribac, 19-2 (7), at 2:15 of the first.
Lightweight prospect Kim Poulsen, 15-1 (3), won his twelfth contest on the bounce, producing a wide eight round points verdict over Saber Gasmi, 11-8-1 (3).
