Prominent fight figures on both sides of the Atlantic fully appreciated what Ricky Hatton accomplished last night in defeating undisputed light welterweight champion Kostya Tszyu last night in Manchester, England. Diego Corrales was on hand as a possible opponent for the winner, and promoter Frank Warren even indicated the possibility of Hatton being matches with Corrales in the future. The nature of Hatton’s win makes what were believed to be great fights into mega-fights in the future as possible future opponents include Miguel Cotto, Floyd Mayweather Jr., Arturo Gatti, Vivian Harris, Corrales and Jose Luis Castillo who is perhaps more likely than Corrales to debut as a 140-pounder this year.
