Kronk Belfast Boxing Gym Holds Charity Event This Friday

ByBoxing Press 30/11/2010

The Belfast Kronk Boxing Gym are organising a unique charity fundraising boxing event to take place this Friday night, December 3rd, 2010, at the Dockers Social Club, Belfast, Ireland. The theme of the fundraising event is ‘Boxing Against World Hunger’ and the occasion promises to be a successful and entertaining evening of amateur boxing.

The event has been organised to raise much needed funds for the 3rd world charity ‘Concern Worldwide’ who work in 28 of the world’s poorest countries, helping the hungry and needy to achieve major and long-lasting improvements in their lives.

The young Belfast Kronk boxers wish to play their part in the fight against world hunger and will lace up their gloves against opposition from clubs across the city of Belfast to raise funds. There will be 10 bouts of boxing followed by live music.

Waldimir Klitschko, IBF, WBO and IBO World Heavyweight Champion, Emanuel Steward, legendary Kronk boxing icon and Andy Lee, Irish Kronk middleweight fighter have all signed a special poster in support of the event, which will be balloted on the evening.

Our club would like to appeal to boxing friends and organisations in Ireland and around the world to consider making a donation this week to ‘Concern Worldwide’. Please log on to www.concern.net/en/donate or send a cheque to ‘Concern Worldwide’, 47 Frederick Street, Belfast BT1 2LW. You can save a life today, please give what you can, as Mother Teresa of Calcutta once said ‘If you can’t feed a hundred people, then feed just one.’

We are presently sending emails to all the boxing clubs in Ireland and our boxing contacts overseas seeking their support for ‘Concern Worldwide’. If everyone makes a donation and forwards our appeal email to all their friends and boxing contacts around the world this will generate the energy to enable the world of amateur and professional boxing to join with us at the Belfast Kronk Gym in the fight against world hunger. We may not be able to change the world, but we can certainly change somebody’s world.

For more than 40 years ‘Concern Worldwide’ has been dedicated to reducing suffering and fighting hunger and poverty around the globe. Today, the aid organisation continues to respond to major emergencies as well as working in long term development programmes. Their main areas of focus are health and nutrition, education, and combating HIV and AIDS.

In our society, in the developed 1st world we hear much talk about the credit crunch, economic downturn and times of austerity. The failure of boom and bust economic dogma and strategies of successive governments and companies around the world based on excessive profit and greed is evident for all to see. The simple fact is, there is enough resources and food in the world for everyone and if it was n’t for the greedy there would not be any needy.

People in the 3rd world are very much dependent on relief organisations and the generous donations of people of goodwill around the globe to help and support them in their time of need.

Belfast Kronk officials would like to express our sincere thanks to Belfast City Council for supporting this boxing event and all the local bars, shops, bookmakers and business community for generously placing sponsorship ads in the Fight Night Show Programme. ( Programme Sponsors – The Thunderdome, Cassidy’s Bar, The Phoenix, Sean Graham Bookmakers, Valuevan, Dirty Cars Wanted, The Roofing Centre, Five Star Taxis, Regal Furniture, Sopranos, John Hewitt Bar, O’Kane Funeral Directors, Frames, Fitzgeralds, Teagues Pharmacy, Vivo Mooney Shop, The Front Page, Newington Housing, The Chester, and Titanic Quarter)

All funds that are raised from advertisements in the show programme, door admission and event ballot will go directly to ‘Concern Worldwide’. The admission fee to the event is £4.00 with boxing commences at 8.00pm followed by music by a live group.

So if you are looking for a good night out and wanting to support a good cause please feel free to make your way down to the Dockers Social Club this Friday night (3rd December), everyone is very much welcome. It is not just your money you will be giving to those in need; it is also hope for the future.

As they say in Ireland ‘There are no pockets in a shroud and the only money you take with you out of this world is the money you give to good causes.’ Please give generously.

I am concerned that Spence has not fought for years now and having no warm up. This may show that he has not much left and cashing in. Tszyu secured a one-sided unanimous decision wi […]
