Boxing Result: Golovkin KO’s Tapia For WBA Title In Kazakhstan

Middleweights Gennady Golovkin and Nilson Julio Tapia clashed last night at Daulet Sports Complex in Astana, Kazakhstan with the WBA middleweight title on offer.

Interim WBA beltholder Golovkin came into the bout the more experienced fighter and that was apparent from the start as the Kazak born German resident patiently waited for his Colombian adversary’s initial energy to burn off.

That happened by the second round as Golovkin began to pick his spots amid WBA Fedelatin titlist Tapia’s busier style.

By the third frame, Golovkin was in full control, battering Tapia around the ring without much coming back in return. As the round was drawing to a close, Tapia was downed and the contest was called to a halt.

Golovkin captures the WBA crown, improving to 20-0 (17) and knocking out his fifth straight opponent. Tapia drops to 14-3-1 (10).
