Hennessy Boxing: Evangelou Brothers

ByBoxing Press 01/02/201102/02/2011

Andreas “The Ace” Evangelou making pro debut.

London (January 31, 2011) Saturday 19th February, Wembley Arena will not only be the hosts for the British title double header fights between Lenny Daws (Molden) vs. Ashley Theophane (Kilburn) and John O’Donnell (Shepherd’s Bush) vs. Craig Watson (Manchester), but for the first time Enfield’s popular boxing stars, the Evangelou brothers will both be in action in the pro ranks together.

The event at Wembley Arena on the 19th is being promoted by Hennessy Sports.

Chris, 24, the younger brother of the two will be bidding for his six straight win on the same night as 27 year old Andreas will be making his professional debut at Light Heavyweight.

Both brothers are trained by Paulo Muhongo and their father, †The Archbishop, †The Most Reverend Dr. Costakis Evangelou, who also manages their careers.

Chris aka “The Flash” said “Training for this fight has been excellent; I feel I am back to my old flair and I feel very hungry for my first fight in 2011.”

“In preparation for the 19th I have been sparring with Billy Jo Saunders and Freddie Turner and have also been contacted by Ashley Theophane’s team about sparring with Ashley to sharpen him up for his British Title challenge against Lenny Daws.”

“I’m looking to stay undefeated and focused and to keep on track for a title bid by the end of the year.” added Chris.

Older brother Andreas who enjoyed a relatively short but rewarding amateur career, in which he fought 11 times and won the London North West ABA Title and Gold at an International Tournament in Sweden, has now decided to follow in his brothers footsteps and join the pro ranks.

Andreas said “Obviously I’m very excited about making my pro debut at Wembley and it has always been a dream of ours to both box professionally on the same event. I’m very close to my brother and we have travelled the world together and finally it is a dream realized.”

“Chris has made an excellent start to his career and I’m gunning to do the same, my goal is to be world champion one day and to achieve that I must stay focused, train with commitment, discipline, dedication and with great sacrifice.” Added the Ace

This great night of Championship boxing at Wembley Arena will be headlined by two British title fights, the first title fight of the night will see Morden’s Lenny Daws looking to defend his British Light Welterweight title for a 3rd time and secure the Lonsdale belt outright when he squares up against Paddington’s Ashley Theophane.

The second British title up for grabs on the night will be for the welterweight crown, this will be contested between Shepherd’s Bush resident John O’Donnell and Craig Watson of Manchester. These two last meet back in April 2009 and produced 12 rounds of exciting boxing in which O’Donnell was crowned the new Commonwealth champion.

To add spice to this already great event, Heavyweight Sensation Tyson Fury will be in a 10 round Special Attraction fight, opponent to be confirmed.

Colchester’s Commonwealth title challenger Lee “Lights Out” Purdy will be in back in action defending his Southern Area title against former British title challenger Michael Lomax of Chingford.

Joining these fighters at Wembley will be a host of talented young boxers including Haddenham’s Tornado Tyler Goodjohn, Islington’s John “Gorilla” Ryder and Phill Fury of Lancaster.

  • Ain't we all want to see Jai v David? 14/09/2026
Don’t we? Let’s cut all of the bullshit here. This is the only fight worth a $100 PPV buy, it’s Jai Opetai v David Benavidez. Canelo is in the background now. He is not worthy of paying any attention to at this point and time. Plus, since Crawford is retired, he is not worth mentioning either, even if he comes back to fight Boots… There is no other fight on […]
  • Where does Conor Benn go from here? 14/09/2026
Conor Benn has been exposed as a no better than a Misfit fighter. He has just been destroyed in 2 rounds for an undeserved Welterweight world title. His best win is against a faded if not shot Eubank Jnr at middleweight. So where does Conor go from here? Conor has already managed to secure a multimillion contract from Zuffa which may be in jeopardy. As a res […]

  • Ran my first half marathon last week Sunday 11/09/2026
I did it. Ran a half marathon in training last week Sunday. I did it in 3 hours, but I did it… lolol… I could do it in 2 and 1/2 hours though. For the first time, I walked a good bit of the distance… And the shoes I had on was not good for long distances. So, I started to get pains in my ankles, Achilles and ACL… But with the right shoes I can def do that in […]

  • Hrgovic's career path 05/09/2026
Hrgovic has finally made it to the mountain as IBF world champion. He has himself to blame for not training hard enough or working on his conditioning, and his management team for failing to get him a title shot sooner. I get it. He wasn’t born with boxing’s golden ticket — he isn’t American or British. His only loss came on a night when a dirty Dubois had h […]

  • Hrgovic sparred with Deontay- He had no fear of Itauma's power 02/09/2026
That was just the truth. Yes, Itauma has great power. But Filip was in there training with, arguably, the hardest hitter the division has ever seen. He could never be afraid of Itauma. That was a critical mental edge Filip had over Itauma. 5 posts - 4 participants Read full topic […]
