Golden Boy Boxing: Sanabria Steps Up To Face Juarez February 19

ByBoxing Press 2/11/2011

Looking to fight his way back into the world title picture in 2011, perennial contender Rocky Juarez will make his Mexico debut against Mexico City’s rising star Alejandro “Flaquita” Sanabria in a 12 round main event on the February 19th edition of Televisa’s “Sabados De Corona” from Gimnasio Ernesto Ruffo Appel in Rosarito, Baja California, Mexico.

In the 10 round co-feature Mexico City’s unbeaten junior welterweight Pablo Cesar Cano battles Jorge Romero of Culiacan.

Talented Mexico City native Alejandro Sanabria (24-1-1, 19 KO’s) has quietly built his resume over the last six years, waiting for his time to shine on the world stage and it looks like that time is now.

In 2009 he began making his move when he won the WBC FECARBOX and NABF lightweight titles and in 2010, he won three of four fights, with all of his wins coming by knockout. On February 19, he gets the opportunity he’s been waiting for when he takes on longtime contender Rocky Juarez.

A 2000 Olympic Silver Medalist for the United States, Rocky Juarez (28-7-1, 20 KO’s) has been seeking gold as a professional since his debut in 2001. Since then, the Houston native has won a host of regional titles, but a world championship has eluded him in memorable battles with Humberto “Zorrita” Soto, Marco Antonio “Baby Face Assassin” Barrera, Juan Manuel “Dinamita” Marquez and Chris “Dragon” John.

Looking to get back on a winning track after a July 2010 loss to former World Champion Jorge “El Nino de Oro” Linares, Juarez is more motivated than ever to get back in the win column on February 19.

Nicknamed “El Demoledor”, 21-year-old Pablo Cesar Cano (20-0-1, 15 KO’s) has done an impressive job of demolishing the opponents put in his way thus far. Closing in on his fifth year as a professional, the Mexico City native is coming off of a hard-fought split decision victory over Oscar Leon last June that earned him the NABF junior welterweight title. Now looking to start 2011 off with bang, Cano begins his fistic year on February 19 with his Televisa debut.

20-year old Jorge “Koky” Romero (17-5, 15 KO’s) has shocked his opponents with impressive power as he has ended 15 of his 17 wins by knockout with 12 of those knockouts coming in three rounds or less. Hailing from Culiacan, Romero is battling not just for the win against Cano, but for national junior welterweight bragging rights in the boxing-rich nation of Mexico.

Both bouts are presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Box Latino de Erik “Terrible” Morales and sponsored by Corona. The doors open at 4:00pm PT, the first bout starts at 6:00pm PT and the Televisa broadcast begins at 10:30pm CT.

Tickets, priced at 100 pesos, 200 pesos, and 300 pesos, go on sale tomorrow, Friday, February 11 at 1:00pm PT and available for purchase at the Gimnasio Ernesto Ruffo Appel Box Office.

A full undercard will be announced shortly.

Callum Smith has pulled out of the David Morrell fight which was due to take place in his hometown Liverpool on 18rh April. I was looking forward to this fight. Callum has a rib injury during training camp. This is a big blow for him as he has not fought since he had that epic victory over Joshua Buatsi. Ben Whittaker will be headlining the event now. talksp […]
  • Errol Spence v Tim Tszyu - June 2026 4/7/2026
The clash between Spence and Tszyu had reportedly been lined up to take place in June. Tim did suffer a cut in his bout against Nurja, which could potentially delay proceedings. I am concerned that Spence has not fought for years now and having no warm up. This may show that he has not much left and cashing in. Tszyu secured a one-sided unanimous decision wi […]

  • Devin Haney vs Rolly Romero collapses 4/3/2026
Negotiations for a WBO and WBA welterweight unification clash between Devin Haney and Rolly Romero have reportedly collapsed. Organisers had planned for the fight to headline a PBC event on May 30, live on Amazon Prime PPV. Haney has turned down the fight. The reason for Haney pulling the plug is that he wasn’t offered a guaranteed purse. PBC instead propose […]
  • Rene Santiago to defend his WBA and WBO junior flyweight belts in Japan 4/2/2026
Rene’s not talked about much. Even here in Puerto Rico he’s not as well known as Xander Zayas or even Oscar Collazo. But he’s got 2 of the 4 belts in the division, and tonight he defends them against Masataka Taniguchi in Japan. Gotta hand it to him. This is his 3rd straight fight in Japan. I admire any fighter who’s willing to go halfway around the world to […]
