Arena Boxing: Solis Hits Germany For Klitschko Fight

On Saturday – exactly one week before his WBC world heavyweight championship fight against Vitali Klitschko – Odlanier “La Sombra“ Solis and his team arrived in Cologne, Germany.

Although the elder Klitschko brother is highly favored to defend his title for the sixth time since returning in October 2008, many fans and experts believe that Solis can be the man to end the boredom in the heavyweight division.

“La Sombra“ has been one of the most successful amateur boxers of all times winning four world amateur championships, six straight Cuba national championships and Olympic gold in Athens 2004. Promoter Ahmet Oner is convinced that Solis will “close the circle“ and win his first pro world championship on March 19th in Cologne.

“Solis will end the Klitschko era and start his own legacy“ states Oner. “I’m sorry for David Haye that we have to steal the attention for his upcoming unification bout against Wladimir Klitschko. I’m sure that Solis will shock the world and prove that Vitali can actually be knocked out.“

The Cuban arrived from Madrid at Dusseldorf airport along with his coach Pedro Luis Diaz Benitez and a four man team consisting of Jose Perez, Efren Guerra, Marc Ramsay and Osvaldo Nordelo. After four weeks of high altitude training in the Sierra Nevada (Spain) Solis had done two weeks of sparring in Madrid.

“It has been a very good and very professional training camp“, says Pedro Diaz. “We have worked very hard and we have a perfect plan for March 19th.“
