Just like their first bout in December, it was an ugly affair from start to finish but this time Anthony Mundine defeated arch-rival Grant Wood on points after ten rounds in front of 3,000 spectators last night at the Entertainment Centre in Brisbane, Australia.
Mundine had been expected to avoid partaking in Wood’s strategy of brawling as “The Man” had been knocked out in the fifth round of their first bout after doing just that.
The early rounds saw Mundine’s far greater skills controlling the contest but Wood managed to put the former world champion on the ropes where he could dig in short shots amid the constant wrestling.
Mundine handled the pressure better than in the first bout but Wood swept the middle rounds behind an aggressive come forward approach.
In the ninth however, Mundine turned things around with a quick canvassing of Wood in the ninth and managed to capture the win with another knockdown after he caught Wood coming in with a perfect uppercut.
Wood beat the count but the damage had been done as Mundine swept the cards by scores of 96-92, 96-92 and 95-93 after ten rounds were completed.
Mundine goes to 41-4 (24) while Wood falls to 10-2-1 (6).
