Melson Promises Fireworks On July 20 Brooklyn Show

In honor of our nation’s birthday, unbeaten junior middleweight and West Point graduate Captain Boyd Melson plans to fight “Army Strong” when he makes his Brighton Shore debut Wednesday, July 20 at the Oceana Hall in Brooklyn, NY.

Melson, inactive for close to three years between his amateur finale and pro debut, stopped his last two foes impressively, but recognizes the competition is only getting tougher and there is still plenty of work to do.

“I definitely had a tough time adjusting to the pro style in my first two bouts after taking all of that time off,” said Melson, who gave up his spot as a 2008 Olympic Alternate due to a shoulder injury. “But I’m slowly getting my instincts back.”

Under the tutelage of former world champion turned top-flight trainer Joey Gamache, Melson’s put in countless hours in the gym honing his craft with the hopes of one day becoming recognized as a superstar both inside and outside of the ring.

“There’s a lot to accomplish in this sport with all of its traditional accolades,” stated Melson, who’ll depart for Fort Lee, Virginia four days after the fight to begin the first phase of the Army’s Captains Career Course. “However, the cause I am a voice for outside of the ring as well as how loud that voice will resonate all depends on how well I do in ring- I never lose sight of that.”

The card is being promoted by Salita Promotions and tickets to Melson’s next bout are available on Teamfighttowalk.com. All of the proceeds from his ticket sales along with his entire purse will be donated to Justadollarplease.org in support of a pending stem cell trial for spinal cord injuries.

In association with Justadollarplease.org, Melson created Team Fight to Walk, whose mission is to raise awareness within the boxing community about the importance of stem cell research for spinal cord injuries.

Team Fight to Walk is comprised of Melson, IBF cruiserweight champion Steve “USS” Cunningham, title contender DeAndre “The Bull” Latimore, Edgar “El Chamaco” Santana and prospects Sid “The Messenger” El Harrak, Denis “Da Momma’s Boy” Douglin, Vinny “The Lion” O’Brien Ahmed “Prince of Egypt” Samir and Delen “Sniper” Parsley.
