Tickets On Sale For August 27 Maidana vs. Guerrero Clash

ByBoxing Press 09/07/2011

WBA Interim Super Lightweight Champion Marcos Maidana and WBA & WBO Interim Lightweight Champion Robert Guerrero will tangle on August 27, 2011 for Maidana’s title at the HP Pavilion in San Jose which will be televised live on HBO Boxing After Dark.

Marcos Maidana, WBA Interim Super Lightweight Champion

“I’ve very happy to be fighting a top level fighter like Guerrero. I only want to fight the best fighters. I will come with everything I have and won’t leave it to the judges’ decision.”

Robert Guerrero, WBA/WBO Interim Lightweight Champion

“I’m super excited for this fight. I just can’t wait. He is a great fighter, but it’s close to home [for me] and all my hometown fans will come out.”

“It’s not going to be the 4th of July. It’s going to be a war. Our styles clash and its going to be great. It doesn’t get better than this. I have to be well prepared and that’s what I’m going to do in camp up in Big Bear.”

Eric Gomez, Vice President/Matchmaker Golden Boy Promotions

“This is a great fight and we are excited to bring big time boxing back here to the HP Pavilion.”

“Maidana is a road warrior and he is no stranger to taking challenges on foreign ground. He will be ready. In Guerrero, you have a Five-Time World Champion looking to do what very few fighters have done and win another world title.”

“Maidana has iron in both hands. He can knock out a fighter with either hand. Guerrero is a true warrior in and out of the ring. I know these two are going to war until the final bell on August 27.”

Rudy Perez, Maidana’s Trainer

“We’re happy to be here and for this fight and we have a lot of respect for Robert, but Marcos is going to train hard and be ready. Don’t miss this fight, buy your tickets and fill this place up. This is going to be a war, so don’t miss out.”

Bob Santos, Guerrero’s Manager

“I hope people start giving Robert his due respect. Taking on Maidana is a huge challenge and I know that Robert is going to come out victorious on August 27.”

Ruben Guerrero, Guerrero’s Father/Trainer

“We are going for our sixth world title and I promise you, my son and I are going to be ready. I’m telling you, it is going to be a war. Maidana is no joke and one of the best fighters out there. I thank him for giving Robert this chance.”

“They are going to face off like two bulls. They are both hard punchers which is going to make for a great fight.”

Maidana vs. Guerrero, a 12 round fight for the WBA interim super lightweight world championship, is presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Universum Box Promotions and sponsored by Cerveza Tecate, DeWalt Tools and AT&T. The HBO Boxing After Dark broadcast will air at 10:30pm ET / PT.

Tickets, priced at $252, $127, $62 and $26, are on sale now and available for purchase at the HP Pavilion Ticket Office, Ticketmaster.com, all Ticketmaster outlets or by calling 1-800-745-3000.
