Theophane Wants Bradley After Cook Brit Title Fight

Ashley Theophane is eager to show that there is not just one British fighter who can be at the top of the light-welterweight division this Saturday night at Wembley Arena.

While WBA champion Amir Khan clashes with IBF champion Zab Judah in the early hours of Sunday morning, Theophane defends his British light-welterweight title against former European lightweight champion Jason Cook.

Theophane, who holds wins over top fighters such as Demarcus Corley and Delvin Rodriguez, wants a successful defence on Saturday night to pave the way to a fight that will lead him closer to a world title shot.

“Khan has never been on my radar, I want Timothy Bradley who I believe is the number one in the 140lb division,” said Theophane.

“I know that I belong at world level, my record shows that and it’s up to me to beat Cook and then look for a fight that will get me into the world title scene.

“I don’t want to be hanging around on the British and European level, I’ve always wanted to test myself against the very best.”

Meanwhile, challenger Cook’s coach Darren Wilson says the Welshman could not in better shape for his shot at Theophane.

“Nobody is hitting harder than Cookie at the moment. This is the title that he turned pro for and he wants it more than anything,” said Wilson.

“He knows this is his last chance at the British title and he will give it everything.”
