Mayweather, Ortiz Go Head To Head For Final Time Before Showdown

ByBoxing Press 16/09/2011

Floyd “Money” Mayweather, Six-Time and Five Division World Champion

“I’m going to go in there with class and will leave there with class. Victor Ortiz said the fight won’t go the distance. So I say ok, it won’t go the distance.

“I don’t have to brag, I don’t have to boast. I’m going to go in there and execute the game plan. [To Oscar De La Hoya] You’ve done a hell of a job with Victor Ortiz’s career.

“I’ve fought them all, never backed down, stayed focused and was always at my best. I want to thank the press and the media for keeping me relevant.

“[To Ortiz] You’re an amazing athlete. I know you’re going to bring your best. Let’s give the fans what they want to see.[To Ortiz Trainer Danny Garcia]You say I’m a dirty boxer. Boxing is a dirty sport.”

“Vicious” Victor Ortiz, WBC Welterweight Champion

“I want to thank Team Mayweather for this opportunity, but let’s not forget I am the current champion of the world and I will remain champion. Forty-one of those fighters [defeated Mayweather opponents] were not me. Forty-one of those couldn’t move like me.

“I am going to teach you what it’s like to have a loss on your record. Somebody’s scared, but I’m going to hold my hands up and I’m going to put you on your ass.”

Canelo Alvarez, WBC Super Welterweight Champion

“I’m very happy to be the main event at Staples Center. I never thought I’d be a champion this young. Obviously Alfonso is a very good fighter. I prepared very well. It will be a tough fight, an exciting fight and the winners are going to be fans.”

Alfonso Gomez, Top-Rated Super Welterweight Contender

“This fight is the opportunity of a lifetime, fighting a boxer as popular as Canelo Alvarez and on a weekend like this – Mexican Independence Weekend. I’m going to take this opportunity to show my talent and show the world the type of fighter that I am.

“I feel his road to this fight has been paved for him to get here. I have done it the hard way and have overcome every obstacle in my way to get to the same place. I don’t think he’ll show me anything I haven’t already seen.

“Golden Boy has given this opportunity to fight on this great fight card with Mayweather and Ortiz and if I beat Canelo I would love to give him the rematch.”

Erik “El Terrible” Morales, Six-Time and Three Division World Champion

“I am well prepared. I know there have been some changes in terms of my opponent, but we have made the necessary adjustments. I’m very confident we are going to come out with our hands raised. It’s going to be a great fight. I’m ready.”

Pablo Cesar Cano, Undefeated Super Lightweight Contender

“I am very happy to be here. It is the first time, but I am sure it won’t be the last. Ever since I started boxing, I have dreamt of this moment. I’ve had dreams and have set goals, and now my dream is coming true and my goals are being met.

“I am hungry for a win. I’m not here to test if I can do this. I am here because I know I will win. My whole life in boxing has been about challenges. I’m ready for this one. I’m here and I’m ready for it.

“I know I’m very young and a lot of you might think it’s too early. I’m going to show you what I can do. Viva Mexico!”

Jessie Vargas, Undefeated Super Lightweight Contender

“It is an honor to be on this fight card with such big legends of boxing like the best pound-for-pound champion Floyd Mayweather, who is also my boss.

“I’ve been training hard for seven weeks and for seven weeks I’ve been waiting for this Saturday. I feel strong and fast and look forward to coming out with the victory.

“I’m not just going to give you fans a great fight; I’m looking for the knockout. This is a great opportunity and I’m going take advantage of it.”

Josesito Lopez, Top-Rated Super Lightweight Contender

“I’m very excited for this fight. I feel this is my time to shine. I’ve had a long tough training camp. I’m ready and excited to show my talent in the ring.”
