Welter Contender Aydin Defeats Dan Again In Rematch

The “unfinished business“ between WBC Silver welterweight champion Selcuk Aydin and Canada based Romanian Jo Jo Dan led to a dramatic 12 round battle on Saturday night in Trabzon, Turkey, which saw Selcuk Aydin scoring a close but clear unanimous decision win.

As in their first bout in June 2010 Aydin dropped Dan in the first round. But just like one year ago the Romanian southpaw got back up and continued to bring the fight to Aydin. While Dan was the busier fighter, it was Aydin who landed the harder and clearer punches throughout the fight breaking his opponent’s jaw supposedly in the fourth round.

In the eleventh round the Turkish “Thunderstorm from the Black Sea“ scored another knockdown which decided the bout. Even a point deduction against Aydin by refereee Massimo Barrovecchio in the final round couldn’t change the result in Dan’s favour.

At the end 5,000 enthusiased fans in the packed Hayri Gür Spor Salonu celebrated their local hero and applauded both boxers for a great fight. Dan had to spend the night at University hospital in Trabzon where he underwent surgery on his broken jaw on Sunday.

“I am happy that I could prove that I am the better man“, said Aydin. “My goal was to knock him out but he is a tough guy. He took a lot of punishment and kept on fighting back. You can’t force a knockout. If it doesn’t happen it just doesn’t happen. Still I dominated the fight and won clearly.

“Now I’m ready for the next step. I have been waiting for a long time to get my hands on the world championship. I have no problem coming to the United States to fight one of the big names. Whoever crosses my way will end up just like brave Jo Jo. Floyd Mayweather, Devon Alexander – stop hiding, come fight me!“

In the co-feature German heavyweight prospect Erkan Teper scored a second round tko victory over rugged Cisse Salif who took a knee in the first round and was saved from more punishment by referee Sergejs Kirpjakovs at the end of the second.

Czech contender Ondrej Pala defended his WBO European heavyweight championship by outclassing vetern Darnell Wilson who admitted that he had an off-night. “Pala is a decent boxer but I made it easy for him“, Wilson said. “I should have done a lot better and I know that I could have beaten him. I hope that I get another chance against a top heavyweight contender to show what I’m capable of.“

German middleweight Benjamin Simon made short work of Ruslan Rodivich from Belarussia knocking his opponent out in the first round. The card will be broadcasted this Tuesday (Nov 29) at 21.00h / 9pm on Eurosport.
