Former undisputed middleweight champion Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins is not waiting for the dust to settle on his loss to Jermain Taylor this past weekend. It has been revealed that Hopkins has contacted the Nevada State Athletic Commission to consider overturning the split decision verdict that meant the end of his championship reign. Hopkins also sent out an appeal to the World Boxing Association in the hope sthat action might be taken to reinstate him as champion. Executive Director of the NSAC Marc Ratner has already stated that there is no basis to overturn the decision, a stance he has repeatedly taken on such matters. The basis of Hopkins’ argument centers on the twelfth round scored for Jermain Taylor by one judge when in fact, the majority of the boxing world have little problem in agreeing on the fact that Hopkins obviously took the final three rounds of the fight. A point to Hopkins in that twelfth round would have meant a draw in the fight, thus Hopkins would still be the champion.
It is unlikely that Hopkins will receive any encouragement in the form of these proceedings, but SaddoBoxing will keep you updated regardless.
