Round by Round: Daniel Seda vs. Silverio Ortiz.

ByJim Cawkwell 03/08/200512/05/2013
The Tuesday Night Fight televised action on ESPN2 got underway last night with a ten round competition between Daniel Seda and Silverio Ortiz. The two orthodox lightweights came together as a chief support to the main event of Tiger Smalls versus Marcos Ramirez coming up later. Ortiz is a tough Mexican fighter

looking to upset the more seasoned, former world title challenger in Seda. Here is how Daniel Seda versus Silverio Ortiz all went down, punch by punch, round by round.

Round one: Ortiz jabbing and slams home a huge right hand that has Seda down on the canvas in the opening moments. Seda takes a mandatory eight count. The action resmues and is scrappy as Seda hits the deck again but no count is administered. Ortiz is stalking but Seda answers back with a left-right combination. Seda goes to the jab. Ortiz looks quick and dangerous with the left hook. Ortiz caught by a stinging jab on the way in which knocks him off balance. Seda looks like he is trying to catch himself from being hurt earlier in the round.

Score: Ortiz 10-8.

Round two: Ortiz using lots of lateral movement early on here.Seda goes down hard once again from a massive straight right hand and takes a mandatory eight. Seda is up but looking to survive against the hard-hitting Ortiz. Ortiz traps Seda in a corner and puts him down again with some hard body shots after a barrage of punches. Seda gets up from his one knee and resumes fighting. Ortiz hurts Seda to the body. Seda eats another looping right hand. Seda whacks Ortiz with a crunching right hand which Ortiz simply shakes off. Seda has to take another hard right hand before surviving behind his jab until the end of the round.

Score: Ortiz 10-7.

Round three: An Ortiz left hook staggers Seda backwards. Seda is hurt and off balance in the exchanges even when nothing too solid lands from Ortiz. A seda right keeps Ortiz in check momentarily. They are wailing away at each otehr in the midle of the ring. Seda is showing great heart by fighting out the storm from Ortiz but is perhaps not employing the soundest strategy. Ortiz gets cracked by a series of hard shots in combinations to the head from Seda. This fight is a barnburner so far and Seda just got himself back into it in style.

Score: Seda 10-9.

Round four: Seda’s jab is accurate and effective. Seda scores with a right hand. Seda is stepping in and staggering Ortiz with jabs, right hand and left hooks to the body. Seda is off balance and is sent backwards by a body jab. Seda gets in with a right hand once again. A huge uppercut staggers Ortiz to his boots. Seda looks much more controlled and effective when he jabd and picks the right spots to throw in instead of standing and fighting Ortiz’ fight. Seda has the momentum back in his favor.

Score: Seda 10-9.

Round five: Ortiz comes out and attacks the body. Ortiz is jabbing more but loading up on a crude left hook attempt. Seda slams home aleft hook of his own. They are trading again and Ortiz is enjoying the greater success. Ortiz is clipped by a left hook. Seda has to absorb a huge right hand from Ortiz yet again. This is a much closer round and the most even action the two have engaged in since the start of the fight. Ortis gets the benefit of the doubt with heavier shots landed.

Score: Ortiz 10-9.

Round six: Seda almost turns Ortiz around with a huge right hand. They are in the centre of the ring circling and clubbing one another with hooks that bounce off their guards and no one is taking the lead at this point. Ortiz cracks in a left hooks that moves Seda back. Seda still succeeds in landing his big rear uppercut. Right-left from Ortiz. Seda jabs well and picks off some snappy shots.

Score: Seda 10-9.

Round seven: A degree of accuracy seems to be missing from both men at the start of this round. Seda shows off some smart defensive movements. Jabs and hooks land inside for Seda. Right from Seda. A big right-left combination followed by a straight right is the only real action in this round. Seda has the edge with greater accuracy and snap in his shots.

Score: Seda 10-9.

Round eight: Ortiz switches stance for a second and nails Seda with a straight left hand. Ortiz is trying to steam in with the big hook again. Ortiz lands a big right hand. A huge right-left combination rocks Seda. Another right hand from Ortiz cracks Seda over the top. The strength of Ortiz is telling at this point as Seda looks like he is on unsteady legs once again.

Score: Ortiz 10-9.

Round nine: Ortiz switches stance again and succeeds in cracking Seda with a sneaky left hand. Seda eats a right hand in the orthodox stance from Ortiz. Seda answers with a right hand. Seda tries to back Ortiz up. A left-right combination sends Ortiz reeling into the ropes. Seda’s jabs and right hands pin Ortiz on the ropes again. They exchange right hands on the inside. Seda backs ORtiz up yet again in the round. Seda tried to press the action most of the round and was playing into Ortiz’ hands until finally being able to put his shots together and steal the round.

Score: Seda 10-9.

Round ten: It’s the final round of a hard-fought contest and Ortiz comes out with a right-left to start things off. Seda is cracked by a left hook and retreats into jab mode. A huge left hand throws Seda off balance all the way across the ring. Seda goes for the big right uppercut but overall he is just not doing enouggh. Ortiz pins Seda on the ropes and goes to work with a wild flurry of shots. Seda is taking hard head shots now. Two more lefts rock Seda to his roots and they battle to the end as the bell rings.

Score: Ortiz 10-9.

Official scores: 94-93, 95-92 twice for the winner, Silverio Ortiz!
