For the second time this month Coldwell Boxing has made another signing to our ever growing stable of fighters.
Hot on the heels of Mark Thompson joining ranks, Lancashire lightweight “Vicious” Kieran Farrell put pen to paper yesterday in a deal that has pleased both the promoter, David Coldwell, as well as the fighter himself.
“I sat down with Dave and I liked the way he was talking. I’m just looking for the right people to make me a world champion which I firmly believe I can be,” said the unbeaten 21-year old.
“Dave’s got an ever-growing stable and getting Mark Thompson in his team is a big bonus.” With his debut for Coldwell Boxing taking place in Birmingham on the Nasser Al-Harbi-Young Mutley undercard on May 11th; his second outing sees him closer to home at the De Veres White Hotel in Bolton on 16th June. And Farrell is raring to go.
“I’m really excited about it. Talking to Dave, he thinks I should come down to super featherweight which is the plan from here on in. I can get down to the weight gradually fight by fight.”
With the shows and signings coming thick and fast these are exciting times for promoter David Coldwell and he’s now beginning to find himself in the position of turning fighters away.
“I’m having a lot of fighters get in touch with me. But I’m not going to promise things I can’t deliver to someone. We can only have a set number of fighters to give out dates to.”
And speaking about his latest signing, Coldwell talked to Farrell’s trainer Bobby Rimmer about the outline for his future.
“I had a good chat with Bobby Rimmer, who’s a quality trainer, and we’re on the same page about where we want to take him.
“I know all about him (Kieran) and he’s exactly the type of boxer we’re looking for. He is a lightweight but if he diets properly we’ll have him doing super featherweight. Once he’s down there we can really let him off the leash.”
