Kell Brook says he thrives under the pressure of a big fight night ahead of taking on Carson Jones in an IBF World welterweight title eliminator on Saturday July 7 in Sheffield – and he has heaped more onto his own shoulders by promising Sky Sports viewers and fight fans a knockout win.
Brook and Jones clash at the top of a star-studded Betfair ‘Edge of Glory’ bill at the Motorpoint Arena Sheffield with the action live on Sky Sports 1HD from 8pm, and the unbeaten welterweight sensation says he has to KO the American to prove he is worthy of his first World title shot.
“There’s always been pressure on me since I put the gloves on people have been watching,” said Brook. “I got rid of a lot of nerves after fighting in front of such a massive crowd against Matthew Hatton and I used the pressure and nerves to my advantage. I coasted through the fight really, and this time I want to move through the gears and really hurt him.
“It’s such a high class division that you have to do something special to get noticed – I know that I have to get rid of this guy in style on Saturday night and believe me, I will.”
Brook and Jones will come face-to-face again tomorrow (Tuesday July 3) at the press conference at Napoleon’s Casino in Owlerton in Sheffield, just a stones’ throw from Brook’s home. Sparks flew at the first press conference and Steel City pride is at the top of the agenda for Brook tomorrow, with fans welcome to watch as the brash Oklahoma fighter and Brook speak to the press.
“He’s rubbed me up the wrong way but I’m a pro and the words outside the ring won’t play any part,” said Brook. “But whatever he’s going to throw at me I know I’ve got the tools to beat him and I’ll be putting on a show on Saturday.”
