Prizefighter KO King Fielding Lands First Title Fight

Rocky Fielding will challenge Wayne Reed for the Central Area super middleweight title at Liverpool Olympia on October 6 on a bumper night of boxing on Merseyside as Derry Mathews and Gary Sykes lead the line-up in Prizefighter Lightweights II, all live on Sky Sports.

Fielding fights for his first title at the venue of his record breaking Prizefighter triumph in March 2011 when he became the Super Middleweight II champion and the first man to win Prizefighter with three KO wins.

The 24 year old Merseysider takes on Sheffield’s Reid who has a score to settle with the venue after dropping a controversial split decision in his quarter-final with Joe Ainscough that same night. Reed, also 24, won the title on Saturday (July 20) with a fifth round stoppage of Yorkshire’s Alistair Warren at Hillsborough.

The 26th edition of Prizefighter promises to be a cracker as former British lightweight champ Mathews and former super featherweight title holder Sykes are joined by Liverpool pair Stephen Jennings and Terry Needham and Sykes’ fellow Yorkshireman Liam Patrick Walsh as the first five names in the line-up.

It will be the second time Mathews and Sykes have fought in the same Prizefighter tournament, with Liverpudlian Mathews reaching the final of the super featherweights night In November 2010 losing out to Gary Buckland, who stunned Sykes in the semi-final with a brutal first round knockout.

Sykes entered the tournament as British champ and defended the belt against Carl Johanneson before Buckland took it from him. The Dewsbury stylist is aiming to right the wrong from his first appearance in Prizefighter and to also keep in the World title mix after his shot at Adrien Broner’s WBO belt was taken away on the collapsed rematch between Lamont Peterson and Amir Khan.

Mathews, who lost his British title in July in a fantastic battle with European champion Gavin Rees, has history with Jennings having beaten his fellow Merseysider in July 2011 for the British Masters title.

Tickets for ‘Rocky and the Prizefighters’ on Saturday October 6 at Liverpool Olympia are on sale now from Matchroom Sport on 01277 359900 and at www.matchroomboxing.com
priced £30 unreserved, £50 ringside and £100 VIP.
