Harrison Finishes Wiggins in four, Sim – Espinosa called off!
Audley Harrison moved himself one step closer to the top class of the heavyweight division with a victory tonight over dangerous spoiler Robert Wiggins in San Jose, California. After carefully avoiding his adversary’s intentions for the first half of the bout, the unbeaten six foot six Englishman struck gold in round four in the form of a beautiful southpaw left hand that clearly shattered Wiggins’ composure. Harrison jumped on the American bomber and raked his foe with lethal combinations for the remainder of the round. When the bell rang, the normally durable left hander staggered to his corner where the referee called an end to the contest.
With the win, Harrison, now 19-0 ( 14), picks up a good measure of credibility as Wiggins has never been handled this effectively despite having shared the ring with respectable operators Monte Barrett and DaVarryl Williamson. The result confirms that the big Brit from London can indeed handle a stiff challenge and the way should now be cleared to match Harrison with higher skilled opponents such as Shannon Briggs, Jeremy Williams, Michael Grant or Danny Williams, in the near future.
The scheduled main co-feature on the card between former world champions Lakva Sim and Luisito Espinosa was taken off the bill when Espinosa reportedly would not submit to a brain scan.
