A powerfull storm lashed southern Florida last night, flooding towns and tearing down trees but that paled in comparison to the right hand that O’Neil Bell used to level Sebastian Rothmann in the eleventh round at the Hard Rock Live Arena in Hoyywood. South African tourist Rothmann was ahead on one card while being even on the other two and had kept up his end of the bargain against Bell, the IBF cruiserweight king. As has happened so many times before, Bell’s power stopped his opponent late and the Atlanta banger hopes to ride this wave of success into a unifaction match with France’s double champion, Jean Marc Mormeck. Also on the bill, a trio of heavyweights brutally disposed of overmatched opposition. Thirty-three-year-old Shannon Briggs belted out Ray Mercer, eleven years his senior, after a rather tame seven rounds while Jameel McCline used a fifty pound weight advatange to knock out journeyman Steve Pannell in three. Not to be outdone, Lance Whitaker held a sixty-one pound advatange over hapless Louis Monaco and knocked his foe out in three rounds as well. Also, heavy-handed Colombian light welterweight Juan Urango knocked Brooklyn’s Andre Eason down in the fourth and seventh rounds en route to a seventh round stoppage. Urango will soon be in line for a shot at one of the world titles at 140-pounds.
