Showtime Tripleheader: Matthysse, Dallas, Aydin, Karass, Charlo, Yorgey

Live from the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, Showtime’s renowned boxing series “Showtime World Championship Boxing” serves up a tripleheader where the main course is Argentine knockout artist Lucas Matthysse (32-2-0 30 KO’s), who looks to secure a WBC title fight with Danny Garcia by winning an eliminator against American boxer Mike Dallas Jr (19-2-0 8 KO’s).

With that on tap, we must look at the more evenly matched “side dishes” in which Turkish powerhouse Selcuk Aydin (23-1-0 17 KO’s) and Mexican warrior Jesus Soto Karass (26-8-3 17 KO’s) face off for 10 rounds. Plus, veteran contender Harry Joe Yorgey (25-1-1 12 KO’s) goes head to head with talented prospect Jermell Charlo (19-0-1 9 KO’s).

Charlo vs. Yorgey should be a classic fight between an upset minded veteran and a rising prospect. With big wins over Ronald Hearns and Jason LeHoullier on his resume, Yorgey surely has been around the block and with his only loss coming in a knockout at the hands of the then undefeated Alfredo Angulo, it’s safe to say you must be world class to shock Yorgey.

Charlo, quite honestly, despite being less experienced, seems to be the more tuned, well timed boxer. Judging by what most observers have seen, he is clearly the more respectable talent.

Charlo soaks his opponents in sharp, precise combination punching which he hopes can lead him to a massive victory. If he maintains his pattern, that is well possible. But if Yorgey makes it rough, he can trip up the young rising star and potentially snatch a victory.

In the co-headliner, Selcuk Aydin is fresh off an exhillerating decision defeat against Robert Guerrero back in July and will be looking to rebound against the courageous Jesus Soto Karass.

Aydin is known for having a puncturing right hand that has made many of his opponents suffer. But with the lion heart that Karass has, he won’t go down without a fight.

Only losing to Marcos Maidana, Mike Jones, Gabriel Rosado and other world class fighters in his career, Karass knows a loss here plants him as a gatekeeper for life and basically, an exile from world level title contention.

Both men will make for a thrilling contest, seeing all that is being placed on the line. It would be a sensational victory if Karass defeated Aydin, but the safe prediction is an Aydin win in what I believe will be the “Fight of the Night”.

Matthysse vs. Dallas Jr. may be an important, contentious bout in the Light Welterweight division, but in the end Lucas Matthysse is an instinctive killer at the top of the division and Mike Dallas Jr. is a fundamentally sound but vulnerable boxer.

Dallas Jr. already has a narrow defeat against Mauricio Herrera and a flattening knockout loss to Josesito Lopez inked on his record.

Matthysse cautiously gets himself to the pocket and unleashes his heavy right hook, which eventually leads to him raining in harsh barrages and normally scoring a stoppage victory.

He compiled a heavy 85% knockout ratio because of that, leading us to believe he will win… and it should be brutal.

Be sure to catch it all live on Showtime!
