Danish promotional outfit Euro Event presented three professional fights Saturday night in connection with the traditional six-day cycling race at the Super Arena in Ballerup near Danish capital Copenhagen.
Middleweight Stephan Alms improved his record to 4-0 (2) when he stopped experienced Hungarian journeyman Antal Kubicsek (22-33-5, 6 KOs) in three rounds. Alms methodically broke his opponent down and ended matters with three knockdowns in the third.
Also at Middleweight, talented 19-year-old Abdul Khattab, now 4-0 (2), looked impressive in getting rid of Janos Varga (13-15-1, 11 KOs), also from Hungary, in the second round. Khattab, who regularly spars with WBA World Champion Mikkel Kessler, floored his foe with beautiful combinations, and after three visits to the canvas it was all over.
Local man, and former Danish Heavyweight, Champion Claus Bertino revenged his professional careers first defeat, when he unanimously outpointed Humberto Evora from Portugal. Evora upset Bertino by third round knockout in March 2007, and the Dane had to wait almost six years to get even.
In what was at times a messy affair, Bertino looked focused and was the aggressor from the start while the elusive Evora put everything into landing one of his haymakers, which he was so successful with in their first bout.
But, while the visitor did lad a few times, there would be no re-run, and after eight rounds the judges deservingly scored it 78-73, 78-73 and 77-73 in favor of Bertino. Evora had a point deducted in round five for holding.
Bertino is now 15-4 (8). Evora fell to 4-10-2 (3).
