After being on the sore end of a controversial verdict against Shayne Singleton earlier this month, Driffield’s Curtis Woodhouse became a media phenomenon days later when he tracked down a social media abuser and forced the troll into an embarrassing backtrack.
With a hectic period now behind him, Woodhouse is now looking forward and his next outing will take place on May 17th at Sheffield’s Pond Forge Arena. Dave Coldwell is looking forward to seeing his entertaining charge back in the ring.
“As far as I’m concerned, Curtis should be going into this fight as English champion but we all know what happened there so it’s time to move on and get Curtis back into title contention as soon as possible.
“It’s been a crazy few weeks for Curtis but his popularity has never been higher and I’m certain that people will want to come out and support him following the spat that he had on Twitter.
“Once they do that, they’ll see one of the most entertaining fighters in Britain and a fighter who gives 110 percent every single time because he loves giving fans a memorable night’s action.”
After performing so admirably in the 10st division for the last twelve months, Woodhouse will now operate a weight category lower at lightweight and with a cluster of exciting names already operating at 135lbs, Woodhouse’s addition will certainly be a welcome one.
“This move to lightweight is Curtis’ decision and I’d advise everyone not to write him off because he’s fully focused on causing a real stir domestically. His next fight is going to be made somewhere around 9st 11lbs because we want to see how he copes with the extra weight loss but if all goes to plan – we could be looking at some fantastic match-ups in the near future.”
As well as Woodhouse, the Sheffield show will also feature the rising names of Yorkshire boxing as Nav Mansouri and Chad Gaynor will both be in action with the former possibly participating for the English strap.
The BBBofC have nominated the Rotherham prospect to contest the vacant title and Coldwell is hopeful that the fight can take place on his forthcoming show.
“Behind the scenes, I’m doing everything I can to get this fight made for Nav because I really think that a title fight like this will bring the best out of him. The board want him to face Nasser Al Harbi so we’ll see what happens there but it’d be a nice reward for Nav to fight for a belt because he’s really knuckled down in the last twelve months.
“He’s coming along nicely now and he’s exactly where we want him to be so as long as he keeps winning and stays impressing then we’ll continue to support him in everything he does.”
Coldwell added, “As for Chad Gaynor, he’s one of the best up and coming fighters in this country right now and he’s going to surprise a lot of people when he starts fighting for titles.
“He had a good workout last time out and I’m definitely looking to step him up in rounds and class in the near future because I think he’s got the hunger and talent to carve out a really good career for himself.”
This show will be available live on the innovative Coldwell Television App but if you want to have a sneak preview of the star names that are going to be in action on May 17th, then don’t hesitate to download the App now and take a look at the catalogue of fights that are currently available.
