Coldwell Confident Of Hughes Upsetting Prospect Cardle

A keen spectator at Liverpool’s Echo Arena last Saturday was Yorkshire-based promoter, Dave Coldwell, who was in attendance to oversee the progress of two of his booming stable as Chris Metcalf and Derry Mathews were in action.

Also catching Coldwell’s eye was Blackpool’s Scott Cardle who prepared for his April 20th meeting with Coldwell Boxing’s Maxi Hughes by outpointing Yves Mesny over four rounds.

This forthcoming Central Area title tussle between unbeaten prospects is a fascinating contest and Coldwell is confident that his man can get the verdict.

“Scott Cardle has made quite a name for himself since he turned professional as he’s been kept busy and has featured on some massive shows over the last twelve months.

“I had the pleasure of having him fight on one of my shows back in February so I know what he’s capable of but I’m fully expecting Maxi to go out there and upset a lot of people in Cardle’s backyard.

“I fully expect Scott to go on and have a very successful career but I just feel that Maxi has a little too much for him at this stage of their respective careers and I think that will be the deciding factor.”

Since turning to the paid code in the latter stages of 2010, Doncaster’s Hughes has slowly built up a respectable nine fight undefeated ledger with the only blemish occurring in 2012 against fellow prospect, Ronnie Clark.

That fight was deemed a draw but Hughes had to contend with a horrific cut that was suffered early into the bout. Coldwell believes that his charge is ready to be let off his leash and victory over Cardle will certainly open more lucrative doors.

“This is a huge opportunity for Maxi but I think he’ll grab it with both hands because I know exactly the type of character that he is. I’ve wanted to give Maxi a huge test for some time now and I was hopeful of making a good fight for him on my ‘New Sensations’ show back in February but that never came off.

“Now he has the big fight in front of him and I know it’s a fight that he’s going to perform in and come away with his reputation enhanced. People are going to be in for a shock on April 20th.”
