Coldwell Boxing Signs Liverpool’s Robbie Davis Jnr

After months of deliberating, Liverpool’s highly-rated Robbie Davies Jnr has inked a long term deal with Coldwell Boxing after resisting various offers from rival promoters.

The Kirkby prospect who has a wealth of international amateur experience has been undecided on his career since being on the sour end of a controversial decision in last year’s ABA final against Louis Adolphe.

The temptation of pursuing a Team GB position was outweighed by professional dreams, which has led Dave Coldwell to add another name to his rapidly expanding stable.

“I’m over the moon to have a talent like Robbie Davies in my team because this is a kid who has a seriously big future ahead of him,” buzzed Coldwell.

“He’s got a ton of amateur experience behind him and he’s been extremely unlucky in not adding to the huge number of titles he won as an amateur because I know he’s been on the wrong end of a few bad decisions. I can tell this is a hungry fighter who’s got a lot to prove and everyone at Coldwell Boxing is desperate to see him get going.”

Boxing seemed a logical choice for the talented Merseysider as his father, Robbie Davies Snr, was one of Liverpool’s most entertaining fixtures throughout the 1970s and his unpaid career included a Commonwealth Games bronze medal and an appearance at the legendary 1976 Montreal Olympics.

With the younger Davies mirroring his father by clinching a fine array of amateur honours, the former Knowsley Vale ABC star is now set to embark on a new adventure that will hopefully reap future rewards.

“This is a decision that I’ve took a long time to make but I had to make sure everything was right before taking a big step,” revealed Davies. “My time as an amateur was great and I’m happy with everything I achieved but there’s a new challenge ahead for me now and I can’t wait to get started.

“I’ve been careful in selecting the team that I want to help me guide me towards titles and with Dave Coldwell promoting me and Dave Tonks training me, I definitely believe I’ve got a good team in place to take me as far as possible. Liverpool is booming as a boxing city at the moment and I can’t wait to be a part of it.”

With Davies becoming the fifth member of Coldwell Boxing’s Scouse portion, the popular promoter is desperate to bring more shows to the city. “Liverpool is somewhere that I’ve wanted to promote shows on a regular basis because they’re a smart boxing audience and I think they’d appreciate the vision that Coldwell Boxing has for the sport.

“We’ve been doing superb shows in Yorkshire and Manchester and with the likes of Derry Mathews and Robbie Davies on our team, there’s no reason why we can’t bring memorable nights to Liverpool.”
