“The Hitman” Celebrates New-found Worldwide Promoter Status

Ricky Hatton has jetted around the world in recent weeks, proving he is now a worldwide promoter.

The former two weight world champion has gained stamps in his passport in four continents, but he says all the travelling has been worthwhile.

Last summer Hatton Promotions lost its contract with Sky Sports and while this may have stopped some promoters from staging shows, it has merely spurred Hatton on.

“I think I’ve proven that I’m in the promoting game for the long haul recently”, Ricky said. “After I lost my TV dates it would have been easy to throw the towel in, but Hatton Promotions has been bobbing along extremely well and all my fighters are still active.

“In the last few weeks I’ve been to Monaco with Sergey Rabchenko and in the last few days I’ve flown to Australia for my two Aussie Olympians, Cameron Hammond and Damien Hooper.

“And since last weekend I’ve flown directly from Australia to Argentina for Martin Murray’s world title attempt against Sergio Martinez on a bill which also sees Gary Buckland fight for the WBC Silver belt.

“It has been extremely hard work and tiring on the body, plus bear in mind that I’m away from my family – my daughter Millie is only 20 months old and Jen is pregnant again.

“I feel it shows my love for boxing is as strong as ever and how far I’m willing to go for my stable.”

And there will be little time for rest when he returns to the UK, as Ricky has the task of preparing hot Irish prospect Ryan Burnett for his eagerly awaited professional debut on May 24.
