BOXING NEWS: DAVID TUA VS CISSE SALIF, OCTOBER 21 ON PPV

ByBoxing Press 16/09/200516/09/2005

The “Heavyweight Heat” show on August 26, 2005 shook the walls of the brand new Hard Rock Live Arena with a hi-octane brand of world-class boxing action. But next month, one man will step into that very same ring with one intention – to tear the roof off.

His name? David Tua.

On Friday, October 21, Seminole Warriors Boxing, in association with Cedric Kushner Promotions, is pleased to announce the latest installment of the Hard Knocks at the Hard Rock series, “Rumble at the Rock”, featuring the United States return of one of the sport’s most electrifying fighters, David “The Tuaman” Tua will face one of his toughest challenges to date in 6 foot 4 bomber Cisse “Cool C” Salif.

This ten round heavyweight clash, which headlines an unforgettable night of professional boxing, will air live on pay-per-view from the Hard Rock Live Arena in Hollywood, Florida. Suggested retail price is $24.95.

Doors open at 6.30pm and the first bell rings at 7.30pm.

“On our first pay-per-view show on August 26, gave fans everything they could possibly want on a fight card; top contenders, rising stars, explosive knockouts and stirring comebacks,” said Leon Margules, Executive Director of Seminole Warriors Boxing “With David Tua and Cisse Salif heading up our October 21st show, boxing fans should expect more of the same.”

Born in Samoa, David Tua (43-3-1, 38 KOs) is no stranger to fight aficionados world wide. Perhaps the hardest punching heavyweight of modern times, the pride of South Auckland, New Zealand takes no prisoners once the bell rings, something some of his more high-profile victims – Michael Moorer, Fres Oquendo, Hasim Rahman, and Oleg Maskaev would attest to. Outside of the ring, the 32-year-old “Tuaman” is one of the sport’s class acts, always willing to talk with fans or lend a helping hand to those less fortunate. A former heavyweight title challenger who went 12 rounds with Lennox Lewis while injured, Tua returned to the ring in 2005 after a two-year layoff and showed that his power was still as potent as ever as he stopped Talmadge Griffis in ten rounds. On October 21, Tua fights in a United States ring for the first time since 2003, and he’s determined to show all fight fans that he’s back and better than ever.

Standing in his way will be hard-hitting New Yorker Cisse Salif (17-4-2, 16 KOs), who will enter the ring with an over six-inch height advantage over Tua, making it a hard climb for the New Zealander. The fact that Salif also has dynamite in his gloves doesn’t bode well for Tua, who will be facing a fighter riding a three fight knockout streak and whose last seven wins have all ended before the final bell. When October 21st rolls around, Salif knows that he is one victory away from the world rankings, an enticing possibility for any fighter.

“It’s a blessing for me to be in this position and I’m thrilled to be back fighting in the United States,” said Tua. “Respectfully, I know Cisse Salif will come with his best and he’s a tough fighter, but I’m determined to fight my way back up the ladder to the heavyweight championship, and this fight is just another rung on that ladder.”

“This is the big fight that I’ve waited my entire career for, and I’m not going to let this opportunity slip away,” said Salif. “David Tua is in for the surprise of his life on October 21st, and I will be victorious.”

Undercard bouts will be announced at a later date…
