“Brawl Room” Boxing Results

ByBoxing Press 22/09/200522/09/2005

Tuesday Night Fights, LLC presented their inaugural card in grand fashion from the Sherman Street Event Center in Denver, Colorado.

The opening bout was to originally feature Janae Archuleta (5-12-1) vs. Brenda Bell Drexel (5-24-2), but was scratched when Archuleta’s opponent, Brenda Drexel, showed up at a whopping 44 pounds over the contracted weight of 140 lbs. In its place was a spirited exhibition between Tanya Gallegos (2-2) and Sarina Hayden (0-2-1), a great replacement bout, and one that certainly got the crowd warmed up.

Jose “Baby Faced Assassin” Morales (1-0) made his debut in impressive style against Octavio Frias (1-2). Morales, a volume puncher who is relentless when its time to press the action. Showing some savvy well beyond his years, Morales alternated between an orthodox and southpaw stance, allowing him to land some flush shots wobbling Frias on a few occasions. Morales took a unanimous four-round decision.

Heavyweight Chris Green (3-0) kept his perfect record as well as his knock out streak intact with his stoppage of James Jackson (1-1). The size disparity was great with Green standing 6’5, 240 while Jackson stepped into the ring as a gracious 6’0, 200 lbs. Green used his jab effectively in the first round, but it was a big right hand 34 seconds into the second that gave the crowd the only KO of the evening.

In the co-main, which was elevated when Anthony Mora was forced out due to a rib injury, Hector Saez (7-3) banged out a six round unanimous decision over previously undefeated Julio Chavez (5-1). An aggressive first round saw Chavez working behind the jab, and a befuddled Saez trying to get inside. The fight was close through three, but a big right hand from Saez had Chavez out on his feet and holding on for dear life, a point was deducted for excessive holding by Chavez, who never really seemed to clear his head or regain his legs. Saez won 58-55 on all three cards

In the main event Adrian Mora (14-0-1) overcame a second round knockdown to work out a unanimous decision over a tough Roberto Valenzuela (33-16-1) in an eight rounder. Valenzuela a relentless volume puncher with heavy hands stunned Mora in the second, forcing Mora to do the smart thing and take a knee for the eight-count. A smarter Mora came out in the third, jabbing on the move, and throwing “punches in bunches’ which seemed to slowly take some steam out of Valenzuela. Scores were 78-73 and 77-74 twice.

With an estimated crowd of 800 in attendance, it was a great night of boxing for all. It seems that Tuesday night boxing in Denver may be a hit.
