On Telefutura’s “Solo Boxeo” broadcast this evening from Top Rank’s promotion at the Aladdin Resort in Las Vegas, Kelly Pavlik remained unbeaten in a tremendous tooth and nail contest with Colombia’s teak tough Fulgencio Zuniga. The lanky twenty three year old took the vacant NABF Middleweight title when the South American tourist’s corner stopped the bout at the 9th round. The man from Youngstown, Ohio was put on the canvas by a Zuniga left hook early on but came back to repeatedly jar the incredibly durable Colombian, who simply would not go down. Both fighters absorbed and dished out tremendous punishment but Pavlik landed more frequently and was the sharper boxer. Zuniga suffered several bad lacerations that covered both combatants in claret before the fight was stopped.
