Round by Round: Bobby Pacquiao – Carlos Hernandez

ByAdam Matson 09/10/200509/10/2005

An important super featherweight bout between Bobby Pacquiao and Carlos Hernandez took place on the undercard of tonight’s Corrales – Castillo 2 card from the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas and SaddoBoxing presents the following exclusive round by round.

Round one: The round starts with both fighters feeling each other out and Hernandez throwing an overhand right that Bobby blocks. Hernandez is chasing Pacquiao right now, with Pacquiao throwing some jabs and a few left crosses, but nothing is landing. Hernandez is throwing the right cross a lot, throwing it straight and as a cross. Hernandez, at the one minute mark is ducking his head and trying to land to the body, he’s been unsuccessful thus far. Pacquiao is sticking and moving with the jab and not landing that often. Pacquio’s style is effective though, as Hernandez wasn’t able to land any big shots the whole round. Bobby’s round.

Pacquiao 10-9 10-9

Round two: Good first round for Pacquiao, lets see if he can follow up. The round starts with Pacquiao not trying to escape Hernandez, and Hernandez is landing some very nice hooks to the body, and a straight right to Pacquiao’s jaw. The distance is much closer this round, and Pacquiao is working the body almost solely. Pacquiao is throwing a lot of 1-2 combos, and more often then not is landing, unlike last round. Pacquiao is now throwing the uppercut, and landed at the one minute mark. Hernandez is pressuring Pacquiao and now has him against the ropes where he threw some very nice combinations that landed on Pacquiao. Pacquiao fires back and drops Hernandez with a straight right to close the round.

Pacquiao 10-8 20-17

Round three: The round begins with Pacquiao putting together a very nice combination, landing his uppercut as Hernandez tries to duck his punches. Pacquiao is looking very good, but it seems he has abandoned his jab, throwing lead left hooks and uppercuts instead. Hernandez throws a short hook to counter Pacquiao but Pacquiao once again recovers and throws more hooks. Hernandez throws a big left hook that lands and hurts Pacquiao. Pacquiao is out on his feet and Hernandez is making him pay, landing his hooks and uppercuts with regularity. The fight is taking place at a closed distance, and that is working to Hernandez’s advantage. Pacquiao survives the round.

Hernandez 10-9 29-27

Round four: Pacquiao is fighting from the outside again, and is working the jab back into the fight. Pacquiao seems tired, he resorts to clinching every time the fight gets back inside before pushing Hernandez. Hernandez sees this and is working the body with his giant hooks. With one minute left in the round, the fight has stayed at a pretty safe distance for Bobby, but Hernandez is able to land a couple lunging straight rights. Hernandez is working the body and Pacquiao seems dead tired at the end of the round. Hernandez’s round for being able to beat Bobby to the body.

Hernandez 10-9 38-37

Round five: The fight once again starts on the inside, and Pacquiao has become pretty flat footed. Pacquiao is throwing the 1-2 combination very nicely, though his long left cross is allowing Pacquiao to get inside and work the body. At the minute and the half mark, Hernandez is still stalking Pacquiao, and unlike the first two rounds, Pacquiao is unable to elude Hernandez’s hooks to the body. Pacquiao is once again, at the thirty second mark, isn’t making an effort to take the fight to the outside, and Hernandez lands a big straight right at the bell that rocked Pacquiao.

Hernandez 10-9 47 -47

Round six: Pretty good fight thus far, as always, Pacquiao seems energized at the beginning of the round and is throwing the jab and keeping distance. Hernandez keeps working the body, and it seems to be wearing Pacquiao out. The fight keeps going to the inside and Pacquiao just keeps jabbing, but the jabs are so long thatHernandez is able to get inside and lean on Pacquiao and land some body shots. With a minute left, Pacquiao is throwing the jab some more, and once again, doesn’t land and allows Hernandez inside. Hernandez lands two big hooks at the bell, and takes another round.

Hernandez 10-9 56-57

Round seven: The fight starts with Pacquiao clinching and pushing Hernandez all the way across the ring. Another clinch and the ref warns both fighters, only to be followed by another clinch. Pacquiao gets hit with a left hook that pushes him back. Pacquiao throws another long cross and it is countered with a big right uppercut by Hernandez. Hernandez chases Pacquiao across the ring and lands another big right cross. Pacquiao is throwing a lot of punches, that might play a factor in the closing rounds, along with Hernandez lading so many body punches, which he lands again at the bell.

Hernandez 10-9 65-67

Round eight: The round starts with Pacquiao moving backwards and jabbing, landing the jabs, something he hasn’t done so far in the fight. Pacquiao moves around firing the jab the whole first minute, and at the second minute’s start, lands a nice 1-2 combination that brushed Hernandez back. Pacquiao is fighting nicely this round, landing his jabs with regularity and following them up with a couple nice right uppercuts. With thirty seconds left Hernandez lands another lunging straight right, that puts Pacquiao against the ropes where Pacquiao clinches and circles out. The round ends with Hernandez landing a straight right, but it was Pacquiao’s round.

Pacquiao 10-9 75-77

Round nine begins with a series of clinches for the first thirty seconds, then Pacquiao getting put against the rope and again fending off Hernandez’s attack. The first minute has been rather action less, with a lot of clinches. Pacquiao looks tired again, and is clinching at every opportunity. Pacquiao insist on throwing those straight rights without the jab setting them up, that is allowing Hernandez to get inside and land a nice right hook to Pacquiao’s head. Pacquiao is working a bit more now, throwing the jab from a closed distance, but with thirty seconds left, Hernandez presses Pacquiao with some nice flurries. Famosa’s hook is landing at will now, but Pacquiao won that round.

Pacquiao 10-9 85-86

Round ten: The round starts with Pacquiao getting Hernandez on the ropes, but Hernandez is just clinching and allowing Pacquiao to do nothing. Hernandez lands a very nice left hook to Hernandez’s head, and that hurt Hernandez. Hernandez recovers and clinches some more and with a minute left, Hernandez lands a big overhand right, but is unsuccessful in following up. With thirty seconds left, Hernandez is throwing very wide and isn’t throwing as much. Hernandez throws another big right cross that lands and then tries to follow up, but Pacquiao isn’t deterred and throws to the bell. I had the fight going to Hernandez, but it was a good fight, and a nice late charge by Pacquiao.
