Joshua Clottey and Chris Smith in Boxing Action Next Friday

Boxing: DiBella Entertainment’s Broadway Boxing Debuts at The Turning Stone

DiBella Entertainment’s popular Broadway Boxing series will makes its Turning Stone Hotel and Casino Event Center debut when the title and site sponsor hosts the Broadway Boxing “Friday Night Face Off” on Friday night, October 21st.The outstanding fight card will feature a pair of 10-round welterweight contests – Joshua Clottey vs. Marlon Thomas in the main event, and Chris Smith vs. Virgil McClendon in the co-feature.

Clottey (27-1, 20 KO’s), fighting out of the Bronx New York, is a product of Accra, Ghana, which has produced the likes of boxing greats Azumah Nelson and Ike Quartey. Thomas (32-5-1, 21 KO’s), a Detroit, Michigan veteran, will provide a stiff challenge for the once-beaten Clottey, a top contender in the welterweight ranks.

The Smith-McClendon tilt is for the NABA Interim Welterweight Championship. Smith (19-2-1, 12 KO’s), fighting out of Queens, NY, is another of the many New York City-based! boxers fighting under the DBE banner. Columbus, OH native McClendon (22-5-1, 8 KO’s) will make the fight a highly-competitive match up as Smith attempts to recapture the NABA Welterweight Title.

The undercard is stocked with upstate New York pugilists, which is sure to delight the Verona, NY fight fans at Turning Stone.

In an eight round junior welterweight bout, Buffalo’s Hector Alejandro (10-2, 7 KO’s) squares off against Tomas Barrientes (27-8, 17 KO’s) of Mercedes, Texas. Utica’s highly regarded welterweight Jamar Patterson (3-0, 2 KO’s) takes on Terrance Thomas (4-4-1) of Newburg, NY, in a four rounder. Two more four rounders complete the card: Rochester’s Kenny Abril (3-2-1, 3 KO’s) will face Shane Culver (1-1) of Philadelphia in yet another welterweight tilt, while Vincent Arroyo (1-0, 2 KO) will also appear on the show in a junior welterweight bout.

Doors open at the Turning Stone Event Center at 6:30 PM with ! the first fight beginning at 7:30 PM. Tickets, reasonably priced at $7 5, $45, $35 and $25 are available at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino Box Office (877-833-SHOW) or through Ticketmaster (315-472-0700 or www.ticketmaster.com).

The card will be broadcast on a delayed basis on Madison Square Garden Network, Fox Sports Net New England and Comcast Sportnet Chicago on standard cable and in High Definition on HDNet.
