Boxing Round By Round Francisco Villa – Teefo Seetso

Light middleweights Francisco Villa and Teefo Seetso squared off on the undercard of Telefutura’s Solo Boxeo card from Las Vegas, New Mexico on Friday. Both men are novices in the early parts of their career but that didn’t stop the fighters from tearing into each other with abandon over the course of their four round contest.

Round one: the first session starts with both fighters meeting in the center of the ring, jabbing. Villa immediately comes in on Seetso, pushing him against the ropes and landing two hooks to Seetso’s body. Villa is shorter then Seetso, which, at least in the early going, is allowing him to duck under Seetso’s big overhand rights and land his left hook to the body. Villa hasn’t thrown anything but a jab to Seetso’s head, choosing to do his work downstairs. With a minute left, Seetso has seemed to figure out that he has to keep Villa at bay using the jab, because every time Villa charges in, Seetso jabs and circles the ring.

Round: Villa 10-9

Round two: the second starts with Villa coming inside to Seetso’s body again. Villa pushes him against the ropes, lands a left hook to Seetso’s body and follows with a straight right that connects to Seetso’s jaw. Villa is throwing a lot more to Seetso’s head this round, following up his hooks and jabs to the body with power shots that land upstairs. Seetso, when he throws his punches, is off balance, which is making him miss and allowing Villa to get inside and land power shots upstairs. At the closing of the round, Seetso lunges with a jab and follows it with a right hook that rocks Villa. Villa tries to throw back but slips and the round closes. That was a close round, which Seetso could have stole at the end, but I gave it to Villa.

Round: Villa 10-9
Fight: Villa 20-18

Round three: Villa bolts out of his corner, meeting Seetso on his side of the ring, but walks right into a Seetso straight right. Villa gets Seetso against the ropes, trying to accomplish something on the inside but Seetso clinches. Seetso gets out of it and lunges with a jab that puts Villa on the ropes and Seetso lands a huge right uppercut that rocks Villa. Villa tries to come back but Seetso follows his jarring uppercut with a right hook that causes Villa to stumble, Villa clinches and gets out of the round without his legs under him. Seetso’s round, as Villa was lucky to get out of it without touching the canvas.

Round: Seetso 10-9
Fight: Seetso 29-28

Round four: the fourth and final round starts with Villa trying to jab his way inside of Seetso’s guard. Seetso deflects everything, and puts Villa’s back against the ropes. Villa is in trouble once again, as Seetso is dominating when Villa is on the ropes, landing a big underhand right. Villa gets off the ropes and as Seetso lunges forward with another jab, Villa lands a perfectly timed overhand right that shakes Seetso. Seetso stays up, and looks like he has recovered as he has gotten back to throwing his jab. Villa looks exhausted, he is constantly putting himself against the ropes, which is allowing Seetso to land his jab – straight combos at will. With ten seconds left, Villa will be lucky to get out of this round, as Seetso lands three unanswered punches as the bell tolls. That was a very sloppy, yet exciting fight, neither fighters had very good punch selection, but they both hurt each other numerous times throughout the contest which made for some tense moments. I had the fight scored two rounds to two, a draw.

Round: Seetso 10-9
Fight: Draw 38-38

The official scorecards read 38-38, 39-37, 39-37 with Tefo Seetso winning by majority decision. The Colorado man improves to 2-0 (0) while Villa, of Midland, Texas, falls to 2-3 (1)
