Promoters Guilty Boxing delivered yet another Friday night of fights at The Orleans Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada over the weekend and the main event showcased six foot nine inch giant Tye Fields as he tries to maneuver his way into contender status in today’s heavyweight division. Fight fans were hoping this would

be a good test of Field’s progress as his opponent was former WBA Heavyweight Champion Bruce Seldon. Unfortunately, there wasn’t much to learn of Field’s progress, as Seldon appeared to be there simply to pick up a paycheck for about four minutes of work.

Fields is an imposing figure in the ring and jabbed well out of his southpaw stance, making it tough for Seldon to get inside. Once Fields figured Seldon had no game plan he closed the distance and started landing some power punches. A left hook to the liver ended the fight as Seldon was counted out on all fours in the second round. It will be interesting to see Field’s next opponent, as he’s done well with what so far has been grade C opposition at best. At age 30, with a 35-1 record, and proven trainer Jesse Reid behind him, it may be time for Fields to try a grade B opponent. Jameel McCline anyone?

On the undercard, former world ranked featherweight Cristobal Cruz took on Gerardo Zayas in a schedule ten round bout between two Tijuana natives. Zayas started out well in the first couple of rounds, landing some good shots before Cristobal started to heat up and find his range. Things got a bit rough in round three and Zayas ended up with a cut over his eye from a headbutt. The cut quickly worsened into a gash during round four, causing a halt to the bout that was then ruled a no contest.

Both men see their resumes retain the same won – lost record as a result of the no contest, with Cruz at 32-7-1 (21) while Zayas stays at 10-10-1 (5).

Middleweight prospect Donovan George won a unanimous decision in a six round slugfest with Julio Lanzas that had the fans cheering. George, 6-0-1 (5) of Chicago, IL appeared to have many fans in attendance and may have been expecting an easy night after viewing Lanzas’ record, 3-4-1 (1) and his questionable shape in the ring. Lanzas, however, came to fight and the outcome was in question until the Colorado man started to tire in the fifth round, when George started to take over. Both fighters were marked up a bit after the bout and received a deserved standing ovation for their efforts.

Donovan George is awarded the unanimous decision by the official scores of 59-55 (twice) and 58-56, climbing to 7-0-1 (5).
