Boxing Preview: Sechew Powell – Archak Ter-Meliksetian

This Friday in Miami, Florida, US television giant Showtime stages another episode of it’s “ShoBox: The New Generation” program in what promises to be an explosive fight night. The first of a co-main event sees the undefeated Sechew Powell, 17-0 (11), in a ten round light middleweight match against Archak “Shark Attack” Ter-Meliksetian, 15-1 (12). The second co-main event will see unbeaten super middleweight prospect Jaidon Codrington clash with fellow prospect, the also unbeaten Allan Green in an eight rounder.

For Powell, this appears to be the toughest match of his career to date. This will also be his fourth appearance on Showtime and ShoBox. In Archak Ter-Meliksetain, he faces a dangerous, hard-hitting opponent who could not only make him look bad but has the power to take him out. Ter-Meliksetain is also ranked number 12 by the IBF and will be looking to win in style, progressing up the ladder in his own right.

Powell is considered to be one of the best young light middleweight prospects in the game. However he is being matched tough in this, his eighteenth outing. Ter-Meliksetian is a big light middle with knock out power and a good left hook. Powell is a well-schooled, slick southpaw. It promises to be an excellent match up.

Both Jaidon Codrington, 9-0 (9), and Allan Green, 17-0 (11), have already displayed the promise, ability and skills that could make them stars of the future.

Both fighters have pedigree as they both boast impressive amateur backgrounds. But this is the pros and it’s a different ball game. Codrington appears to have the edge in power with all his victories coming inside the distance and Green appears to be the boxer of the two, with some decent points wins to his credit.

They have a common opponent in former Charles Brewer victim Etienne Whitaker. Codrington took Whitaker out in one in April of this year while Green took a little longer, but also knocked Whitaker out impressively with a second round blast out in November of last year.

Both boxers will be supremely confident, having never tasted defeat in the pros. Neither will want to loose their unbeaten records, however somebody’s 0 must go. It will be explosive while it lasts.
