Boxing Info: Kevin Kelley Vs Sandro Marcos

FORMER WORLD CHAMPION KEVIN KELLEY TO FACE SANDRO MARCOS FRIDAY, NOV. 4, AT THE MAGESTIC VENTURA THEATER
Exciting Bout to air on Telafutura at 9 p.m. P.T.

Former World Boxing Council (WBC) featherweight champion and current WBC No. 9 contender, Kevin “Flushing Flash” Kelley, will take on Sandro Marcos in a 10-round junior lightweight tussle to be televised live as the main event on Telefutura. Top Rank Boxing, in association with K2 Promotions and Miller, will present the card on Friday, Nov. 4, at the Majestic Ventura Theater in Ventura, Calif.

Kelley (56-6-2, 37 KOs), of Brooklyn, N.Y., captured the WBC crown with a 12-round unanimous decision over Gregorio Vargas on Dec. 4, 1993, in Reno, Nev. Because of his exciting style, Kelly has appeared on HBO and HBO PPV 13 times, as well as on ESPN, USA Network, and ABC Wide World of Sports. He has fought all of the top fighters in his division including Erik Morales, Naseem Hamed, Marco Antonio Barrera, Derrick Gainer, Gregorio Vargas, Alejandro Gonzalez, and Clarence Adams. This will be Kelley’s third fight in 2005 at junior lightweight.

The former world champion’s showed that he was ready to compete again on a championship level when he scored an impressive win in his last outing on May 17, 2005, over Jose Reyes (17-1 going in). The bout was televised by ESPN2. Kelly has won 6 out of his last eight fights, including a win over current WBC featherweight champion, Humberto Soto. The two losses were to Erik Morales and Marco Barrera, arguably the two world’s best featherweights.

Marcos (25-13-2, 21 KOs), of Mazatlan, Mexico, is coming off of his most impressive victory, a second-round knockout of featherweight kingpin, Johnny Tapia, on Sept. 16, 2005, in Chicago. Tapia was a champion in three weight divisions, a holder of five world titles, and had never been stopped.

The Majestic Ventura Theatre is located at 26 S. Chestnut St. the first bout begins at 5:20 p.m., first televised bout will air at 9pm on Telefutura. Tickets for the event are priced at $25, $45 and $100.
