Former WBA Lightweight titlist Stefano Zoff may have finally hit the wall at age of thirty nine as the cagey Italian was finished inside the tenth round by unbeaten Juan Carlos Diaz Melero in Leganes, Spain. At stake was the vacant European crown, a title that Zoff, 43-11-2 (17), has already held twice before but the man from Monfalcone, Italy simply could not keep pace with the much younger Melero, of Ciudad Real, Spain. Melero, 30-0 (11), had never even come close to facing a fighter of Zoff’s caliber in the ring before tonight but the Italian’s skill advantage could not bridge the ten year age gap that separated the two men.
