KO\’s And Controversy Ends DiBella\’s 2005 Boxing Season

It was a soggy, cold evening in the big apple but that didn’t stop fight fans from coming to the Hammerstein Ballroom for the last installment of the Broadway Boxing Series of 2005. As I entered the Ballroom, Gary Starks was up and as usual, he controlled the pace from beginning to end, dominating his opponent from start to finish. He went on to pound out an unanimous, eight round decision win over Jose Hernandez. He improves to 13-0-6ko’s. Also on the fight card was Edgar Santana who completely destroyed Jeremy Stiers. It took Santana just one round to stop the game but obviously overmatched Stiers. Santana jumped on his opponent from the opening bell and never let up. Several crushing body shots sent Stiers onto the canvas, and as the bell toll to end round one, Santana dropped Stiers for the third and final time. The referee stopped
the bout at the end of round one. As the night progressed, it was Curtis “Showtime” Steven’s moment to enter the ring to face Kia Daniel’s, and with just forty-four seconds into the bout, Steven’s caught Daniel’s with a neck
shattering left hook that sent the unsuspecting pugilist crashing to the canvas, leaving him motionless for a few minutes. He finally regain consciousness and had to be helped to his feet and later taken out on a stretcher! Needless to say, Curtis Steven’s improves to 10-0-9kos. Finally we get to the main event where Dmitriy Salita took the stage. What was thought by many to be a relative easy opponent for Salita, turned out to be a bit more than he could handle. In the opening round, Salita was knock down, although not at all hurt or in danger, and what some say, looked to be more of a slip, shove or whatever you want to call it, it was still ruled a knockdown. The two passed jabs, and body shots and combinations, neither one letting the other get a shot in without retaliating. After the second round the tables began to turn on Salita and in favor of his opponent. In many of the early rounds, Frankel out jabbed and out worked Salita, snapping his kneck back with his precision jab, but then came Salita with stiff jabs of his own as well as thunderous body work. The fight went the distance and the judges awarded Salita the win with the scores of 96-93, 96-93, 97-92. Salita improves to 24-0-14kos, Robert Frankel 12-5-1ko.
