JIMMY LANGE vs. JOEY GILBERT: THE REMATCH
Clash of the Contenders
NABO Middleweight Championship
February 18, 2006, Patriot Center – Fairfax, VA

NEWS CONFERENCE QUOTES….

JIMMY LANGE
“To say that the loss to Joey haunts me is an understatement – he has been gracious enough to give me another shot.”

“I’m training for Joey Gilbert; he has been on my mind 24 hours a day since the loss. I’m going to out box him, beat him up, and break him down.”

“The jab is everything in boxing – 99% of the time the guy with the better jab wins the fight. If my jab is working February 18th — you [Gilbert] have no chance.”

“I feel I have better skills than Joey and I’m going to use them.”

JACKIE KALLEN (“First Lady of Boxing; Special Advisor to Jimmy Lange”)
“Jimmy’s a true throwback to the boxers of the past, such as pros like “Sugar” Ray Leonard and Tommy Hearns. He’s a gentleman in every sense of the word and I’m very proud to be part of his team.”

JOEY GILBERT
“Jimmy has always been respectful and a gentleman about the loss. I got a phone call and they asked if I was willing to fight 12 rounds in his [Jimmy’s] hometown. I will set my ship down, and burn him down.”

“I learned important things on The Contender. “Sugar” Ray Leonard told me a fighter is never 100% physically, but he has to be 100% up here [mind].”

“I don’t know when, I don’t know which round, but I will win this fight. My heart and my mind will take me through [the fight].”

DAN BIRMINGHAM (Joey Gilbert’s Trainer)
“Joey has the most heart, will, and determination that I have ever seen in a boxer since Jeff Lacey (IBF Super Middleweight Champion who is trained by Birmingham).”

“This is my second camp with Joey; I’ve been with him from the beginning. I can tell you this Jimmy — he is going to be ready for you.”
