Former manager of undisputed World heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis and consultant to top promotional firm Sports Network Frank Maloney, who also headed up Panix Promotions in the 90s, finally throws his hat into the promotional ring with his brother Eugene under the banner of Maloney Promotions with the eagerly awaited twelve round lightweight clash between British and Commonwealth champion Graham Earl and Russian world class Yuri Romanov on Friday 27th of January at the Goresbrook Leisure
Centre in Dagenham
Frank who has been involved in some of the biggest promotional shows that Britain has seen including the only all British heavyweight World title fight between Lennox Lewis and Frank Bruno in Cardiff and has been
involved in more World title fights than any other manager or promoter has worked both sides of the Atlantic says
“I am excited and full of enthusiasm to be back in the promotional game in my own right with my brother I look forward over the next few years in developing Maloney Promotions into a major setup.
“I have worked with many people in the sport from the likes of Micky Duff, Dino Duva, who I have the utmost respect for and was the best teacher a person in boxing could have had my last five years have been spent with Britain’s top promoter Frank Warren and what I learnt there will hold me in good steed for what lies ahead on the Rocky uncertain road of professional boxing.
I have made my name as a manager rather than a promoter and I will continue to manage fights but being able to promote them under the same banner will benefit the fighters who sign me. The first one I made a
promise to before I went on my own was Graham Earl who has been with me from day one of his career, I know people are saying he is the underdog in this fight but I am confident that Earl will stop Romanov within the distance and will become a force in the lightweight division and go on to claim a recognized World title fight.
Since leaving Sports Network I have been asked by a number of people whether I intend to challenge them and take them on. I answer the question very simple, Sports Network are the Chelsea team of Boxing promotion, Maloney Promotions is like Charlton or Wigan of the premiership we have the knowledge we have the base and we have some very good fighters but need time to grow. Maloney promotions believe the signings of David Haye, Jamie Moore and Ali Nuumbembe alongside Graham Earl and Martin Power plus their stable of young stars gives them the opportunity to grow steadily and maybe in a few years they will be major challengers to Sports Network, but in the meantime will concentrate on taking David Haye, Jamie Moore, Graham Earl and Martin Power to World honours.
The Earl vs. Romanov ‘Acid Test’ will be show live on Sky Sports on Friday night as will Martin Power’s British bantamweight title fight with Isaac Ward on March the 10th and the much anticipated Battle of Britain between super-middleweights Brian Magee and Carl Froch on March 31st.
Maloney Promotions haven’t forgotten that they made their name on untelevised shows and promote a mini-classic for the Southern Area lightweight title between Rob Jeffries and Ryan Barrett on February 11th
at the York Hall in Bethnal Green and co-promote with VIP Promotions, the final eliminator for the Commonwealth welterweight title between Ali Nuumbembe and Joshua Okine in Manchester on February 12th.
Frank and his brother Eugene promise that they intend to give the fight fans entertainment and good value at their shows and will continue to produce champions at all levels.
