Boxing In Germany: Brähmer Heading Universum Show Against Thysse

ByBoxing Press 02/02/200602/02/2006

Jürgen Brähmer, the undefeated 27-year-old super middleweight contender from Germany is one of the brightest stars and prospects of the Hamburg based Universum Box-Promotion. On the upcoming Universum event on Saturday (ZDV live 23:00) the colorful and highly talented Brähmer will defend his WBC international title belt against South African Andre Thysse. On Monday’s press conference in Duesseldorf both opponents demonstrated confidense prior to their showdown at Burwächter Castello.

Although Brähmer, 26-0 (22), is taking his opponent serious he makes no secret out of the fact that he regards him as checkup for his own skills as he has intentions far beyond scoring a victory over this South African.

“I am in very good shape and I’m able to go twelve rounds again – even though I last did it three years ago”, explained Braehmer, who had to serve time from 2002 to 2005 and won his two comeback fights inside six and seven rounds last year. “My goal is to become world champion within the next twelve months”.

“I didn’t come to Germany as a loser”, the 36-year-old Thysse countered. In February 2004 the man from Germiston challenged a German unsuccessfully and lost a unanimous decision to Markus Beyer in a WBC world title fight.

“I want to fight Beyer for the title again. This time I would beat him definitely”, the South African believes.

Despite of his optimism it seems unlikely that Thysse may get that far because his opponent Jürgen Brähmer is being feared for his quick reflexes, his precious punches and his power. He demonstrated that he hasn’t lost any of those natural gifts despite his long ring absence by he completely outclassing Roman Aramian (TKO6) on October 15 and Henry Porras (TKO7) on November 26.

Two other fighters off Hamburg’s famous boxing talent source are Brähmer’s stable mates Egon Roth (heavyweight) and Michel Trabant (welterweight).

Roth, 13-0 (11), a 6-foot-7 model athlete from Southern Germany’s Frankenthal is regarded as one of the biggest heavyweight prospects from Germany in a long time. In Düsseldorf he will take on American Jeff Yeoman, 19-5 (8). Egon Roth has a younger brother Dieter who is a heavyweight contender as well and just started into his professional career with 5-0 (3).

Once again reaching out for a title is German welterweight top contender Michel Trabant, 41-2 (18). The 27-year-old Berliner is a former European champion and established his world class potential when he dropped only a marginal split decision in his WBA world title shot against Jose Antonio Rivera in December 2003.

Michel Trabant, despite his young age, is the “senior” in the Universum team because he turned pro in 1995 – earlier than any other active fighter of his boxing stable.

In Düsseldorf Trabant will go for the EU title against Italian Michele Orlando, 30-4-2 (18).

Also in action are two interesting Spotlight fighters: Middleweight sunnboy Sebastian Zbik, 10-0 (3), and heavyweight knockout sensation Denis Boytsov, 11-0 (11).

“Denis Boytsov has outstanding skills and will be world champion in shortest time”, boxing expert Jean Marcel Nartz, manager for Universum Box-Promotion, believes. “Denis is an unbelievable knockouter. This is what people want to see. The fans no longer want boring fights like Beyer against Colajanni. They want to see both fighters stepping into the ring with the intention to win.”

Boytsov will take on South African Hein van Bosch, 9-13 (2), on February 4.
