At a press conference held by promoter Chris Sanigar the air in Plymouth was chilling but as Scott Dann and Larry Sharpe met for the first time ahead of their match-up for the vacant commonwealth middleweight title the heat was building.

Plymouth born boxer Scott Dann was as usual full of confidence and looking in tremendous shape, “I feel a lot physically stronger than I have before and am happy with how all my training has gone.”

The team behind Scott has taken onboard a good nutritionist and Scott says “ Right now I am purely training for the fight not to lose more weight, I feel as strong as an Ox, stronger than I’ve ever felt”

However Larry “razor’ Sharpe wasn’t letting Dann have things his own way, insisting that he hadn’t made this trip from Canada for the fun of it “I’m really looking forward to this fight, everyone here expects Dann to win, but I am here to bring upset, I’m very hungry for this title.”

Team King John Boxing and Larry Sharpe make this trip to the UK, their fourth outside of Canada hoping that they too will be using it as a stepping stone to greater things, “ We have been in talks, and are looking to step onto the Las Vegas circuit where big purses are on offer, taking a belt over means things”

Scott as ever is encouraged by fighting in front of what he calls “ the greatest boxing supporters in Britain” and hoping they can again cheer him on to bigger and better things, with the dream of sometime soon fighting in front of his supporters at the stadium of his beloved Plymouth Argyle at an open air event, with the board at Argyle fully behind this idea

The Sharpe team are also looking to use the crowd as going into the backyard of your opponent seems to motivate Larry, having had the boo’s when travelling south of the Canadian border and coming back victorious on three occasions, Larry says “ I’m not worried about the crowd, I’m up against Scott, He’s in front of me and I’ll be in front of him”

“We have looked at Scott and know that he is a big puncher, but we come to play our own game, We are respectful of him but boxers all a need good defensive or a damn good chin to be at this level, The best way to win a fight is by K.O. but you also need to respect your opponents power and be prepared for a battle of will”

Scott has also set himself up should this bout is to go the distance, “ I would like to make a show of this fight if it can happen but have trained for twelve rounds make no mistake if it goes the distance I’ll be strong to the end”

With both fighters looking to use this as their catapult to the big shows it looks certain to be an explosive sell out night, with an under card that features Bristol born Lee Haskins taking on Tanzanian Anthony Mathias for the Flyweight Commonwealth title.
