Unbeaten Hopkins Draws Mario Ramos For USBA 140lb Belt While Miguel Figueroa Clashes With Larry Mosley For NABO 147lb Crown On March 3rd
A pair of championship 12-round fights top the Friday evening, March 3, boxing card at the New Alhambra, next to Forman Mills, in South Philadelphia. Unbeaten Demetrius Hopkins, of Philadelphia, will box Mario Jose Ramos, Phoenix, AZ, in one fight for the vacant United States Boxing Association (USBA) junior welterweight title. In the other, Miguel Figueroa, of Camden, NJ, goes against Larry Mosley, of Los Angeles, CA, for the vacant North American Boxing Organization (NABO) welterweight crown. Both title fights will be televised live by ESPN 2, beginning at 9 p.m.
Hopkins, 26, has a 22-0-1 record, 14 K0s, and already is highly rated among the world’s best 140-pounders. He has knocked out his last three opponents—Paul Delgado, Ernesto Zepeda, Jesse Feliciano.
This will be the first time he has headlined a card in his hometown.
Ramos, 26, is 16-1-1, 3 K0s, and comes to Philadelphia fresh off a pair of victories over tough competitors Cosme Rivera and Robert Valenzuela.
Figueroa, 28, scored a bruising 10-round decision over Jose Medina in his last fight Dec. 16 at the New Alhambra. He now is 24-5-1, 14 K0s, and on the verge of a world rating.
Mosley, 26, is 15-1, 6 K0s, and he has stopped his last five foes after having scored only one knockout in his first 11 fights.
Five prelims complete the card, which begins at 7.30 p.m.
