Heavyweight prospect Kevin Johnson to make his national television debut on action-packed undercard at the Mohegan Sun Arena on Friday March 31st
Heavyweight prospect Kevin “Kingpin” Johnson takes another step in his climb to the Heavyweight crown as he battles veteran Robert “Big Philly” Hawkins in a Heavyweight bout in the Mohegan Sun Arena on Friday, March 31st. Televised on ESPN2’s “Friday Night Fights,” this bout will be the co-feature attraction during a great night of boxing at Mohegan Sun, presented by Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing, featuring former Light Heavyweight Champion Montell “Ice” Griffin, (47-6, 30 KO’s) against “Stormin” Norman Jones (28-14-3, 9 KO’s) in a 12-round fight for the USBA Light Heavyweight Championship.

The boxing card will also feature Elvir “Kosovo Kid” Muriqi (30-3, 19 KO’s) from Bronx, New York, undefeated Middleweight prospect, Elvin Ayala (12-0, 5KO’s) from New Haven, Connecticut, and Hervey Medina (5-0-1, 2 KO’s) from Highland, New York. In other action, Richard Pierson (3-0, 2 KO’s) from Paterson, New Jersey takes on Randu Campbell from Bronx, New York, and the talented young Westley Hobbs Richards (2-0) from Brooklyn, New York battles Ron Lewis (0-1) from Syracuse, New York in a Middleweight bout scheduled for four rounds.
Born and raised in Asbury Park, New Jersey, the 26-year-old Johnson (8-0-1, 5 KOs) has been one of the most highly sought after Heavyweights in the world ever since a 2004 campaign that saw him defeat veteran contender Robert Wiggins and battle to a highly controversial draw with unbeaten contender Timor Ibragimov.
Hawkins, (21-5, 7 KO’s) from Philadelphia is coming off a loss at the hands of highly ranked Samuel Peter on December 15, 2005 in Hollywood, Florida. Hawkins has been in the ring with his fair share of prospects and is more then capable of giving a highly thought of heavyweight their first defeat. He knocked out the previously undefeated Gary Bell (15-0) in round ten of their 1997 fight, and he took apart the knockout artist John Poore (16-0, 16 KO’s) in five rounds at the Spectrum in Philadelphia.
