Gary ‘Hot Stuff’ Woolcombe steps up to leading support when he fights Eugenio Monteiro on the undercard of David Haye’s European Cruiserweight defence.
Not only is he chief support he also gets his first real test in international boxing against the Manchester based Portugese strongman Monteiro who has wins over the likes of Anthony Farnell, Takaloo and Gilbert Eastman on his boxing CV.
This fight will prove whether Woolcombe really has championship credentials or whether he is just another over-hyped young prospect.
Woolcombe himself can’t wait for event. “I’m looking forward to the fight and hope I can put on a good display again for the crowd in my favourite boxing arena.
“Recently my opponents have been falling like flies, not bad for a boxer who they say can’t punch and I hope to do the same to Monteiro to really push me up the ratings.
“If I come through this one I hope to get on the undercard of the Moore-Macklin British title fight on May 5th in Manchester and put a display to show that I should also be fighting for a Lonsdale belt soon.
Also on the “Hayemaker Hits London” event is the enigmatic Anthony Small who like Woolcombe is looking for honours this year in the little-middleweight division. Will Woolcombe and Small meet somewhere down the road?
Small takes on Finnish foe Kai in his first performance on a Maloney Promotions and promises the London fight fans a scinitillating display on his debut at the spiritual home of British boxing.
Also performing are Sam Webb, Ian Wilson, Jadgar Abdulla, Tom Glover and Robert Lloyd-Taylor who has his first fight under the management of Adam Booth.
This major sporting event takes place at the York Hall, Bethnal Green on March 24th, Doors open at 6.30 and boxing commences at 7pm
